I remember this story from when I was young, that Jonah was swallowed by a whale, lived inside the whale for two days and was spit out by the whale unscathed. I'm not sure I have every detail correct. This is in the bible, correct? Has anyone else been swallowed by a whale and lived inside it to be spit out ok?

Actually no one knows for sure, but probably not. There is so much symbolism in the Bible. For example, It probably wasn't an apple tree that God forbade Adam and Eve to eat from, but the restriction God put on them was most likely that simple. An example of this symbolism in the New Testament, is when Christ said the Temple would be destroyed and He would raise it up again in 3 days.

Yes, there was a man in the 1890's who was swallowed by a whale while working on a whaling ship, he was assumed to be dead until they started slaughtering the whale and heard him screaming, his skin was bleached from the acid and he kept screaming off and on for a couple of days. A minister put forth the idea that Jonah was so convincing because he had been scared and bleached and therefore really got peoples attention.

Yes, you're right. Jonah lived inside a whale and lived three days. Very true.. Of course it's never happened since then, but it's in the Bible.

Big fish, and yes.
Jonah 1:17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
Jonah 2:10 And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

Yes he did. And yes it's in the bible. And I think that Jonah was the only person to be swallowed and then spit out safe. Do you know the whole story? If not, you should look it up in the bible. It's a really great story honestly.

I was watching this interesting documentary on Great Whites the other day, and they had this interesting side bar that Johah was perhaps actually swallowed by one of them, because a word in hebrew or whatever it was called back then was actually closer to describing the white shark or the other huge shark that lived in those waters around that time. Personally, I don't believe the story, but I think it's interesting that the writer may have actually mean a great white instead of a whale.

Actually it was 3 days (and 3 nights along with them) inside a big fish (since the Bible doesn't specifically say it was a whale). He didn't come out very healthy... pale and smelly for sure, but it was what he needed to listen to God's direction to go to Ninevah.

It's actualy a story of reluctance toward a peice of instruction God gave Jonah. The whale(orgreat fish) acts as a taxi to put jonah back on track. Amazing as it sounds you can take it to the bank. It happened.

the bible does not say it was a whale, it just says a big fish. Jehovah did not let the fish harm Jonah in anyway. it was true. it was not a lie.
