Do you put it up to your mouth or use a fork? Does it really matter? Is their a fancy way? It makes me feel weird to be at a resturant and be eating them off the bone.

If you don't get it on your face and all over your fingers, you're not doing it right. When people see you are eating ribs, they understand it's a difficult food to eat, and probably don't even think twice about it, as long as you don't go animal on them! It's the same thing with corn on the cob, it's socially acceptable to use your hands. In fact, if you used a fork, that would appear a little pompous, like eating a hamburger with a knife and fork (which they do in Australia and the first time I saw it I couldn't believe my eyes lol!).

Don't even TRY to use a knife and fork!. The food is "casual dining" and the only table manners you should exercise are:
chew with your mouth closed
don't talk and eat at the same time
ensure that you have and use plenty of napkins
make sure your table mates have had the opportunity to take the last one!
Ribs are SOUL Food, and should be eaten without pretense! ENJOY!

Hold them down with your fork and cut the meat off, then eat them. It doesn't matter what kind of a resturaunt I'm in, I eat them right off the bone. But from experience I would recommend that you do not wear white or forget to cover your shirt and pants with napkins when you eat them. Sadly, I've been there, done that. It just jumped right out of my hands. I couldn't stop it.

Well, ribs aren't meant to make a fancy meal, and seeing someone picking at a rib with a fork is just strange to me. Besides, making a mess is what makes eating ribs fun.

If you feel weird eating them at a restaurant with your hands then pass me yours!

Ribs are an eating experience that always brings smiles to people's faces so learn to let loose and dig in and enjoy.

Finger lickin' good means just that!

With your fingers! Ribs is not a food to be all prim and proper with you know what I mean! AND get plenty of napkins unless you want to lick your fingers. I must be uncultured because I can't help but do that.

Shucks.... the best way is to just dive in, get sticky fingers and enjoy! (Wash hands first, of course!) It's okay to lick your fingers, too. If you feel uncomfortable doing the above, eat something else. Yummy...... I'm hungry for ribs now!

I eat them with my hands even if my parents use a fork and knife.

Roll up your sleeves and use both hands.

Note: it is not considered good manners to wipe your hands on white tablecloths.
