A definite YES. It's kinda like car insurance, it's expensive to buy, but when that incident occurs...you're glad you have it.
I've had insurance for my dog for the past 3 years at $360 a year. I filed a $900 claim once a couple months after I bought it and will be using it again in the next few days. My dog got admitted into clinical care for the past few days and the bill is over $3000 already (exploratory surgery, etc.). The pet insurance isn't going to cover my entire expense this time around cuz most likely the bill will be at least $5000. But it will cover up to $3,000. So I paid $1080 for insurance and get $3900 back in benefits.
Not much, but better than nothing in my opinion. Plus it's per category so if he gets into trouble with something else...like get hit by a car (hopefully not), the insurance will pitch in again.
Only thing I don't like is that it doesn't cover annual shot fees.

Yes! My maltese was attacked by a retriever while on a walk (my dog was leashed - the other wasn't). I was able to get her out of harm's way before it got too bad, but the vet bill to stitch her up still came to over $500. I don't know about your vet, but mine does not accept a payment plan, nor do they accept post-dated cheques. I didn't have $500 to pay for the vet service and thanked my lucky stars that I cared enough for my pet to purchase health insurance for her. You may never need to use it, and some may consider it a waste of money (it is expensive), but no amount of money is too much when it comes to my 'babys' well-being.

It would depend on the company. We used to have insurance for our dogs and it did not cover enough to make it worth while, such as regular shots and checkups. You may have better luck with it. You can also get estimates and just set that much aside in a bank account for the same purpose, that way you will gain the interest and not the insurance company.

No - it's crazy expensive. By the end of everything, you will have ended up paying much more for your pet's life insurance than any surgery, or illness would have cost.
A better plan would be to put money aside as a sort of "pet fund"!

Depends on what they offer. If it is a very hard to find breed of cat or dog, possibly, but keep in mind that there are so many health risks out there that can cause the pet to become very ill and perhaps die. Equine, bovine, porcine, ovine I could see only if they are used for breeding, such as a stud.

My dog just turned 14 and I looked into insurance for him. Prior to this his health has been excellent but he is starting to show some signs of serious aging. The price of insurance was outragous, it was also very limited in the coverage due to his age. I will pray that he is with me for awhile, and when it is his time I will make the decision that I dread so much. I guess that my answer to this question is no. Good luck in making your decision.

That's a tough one. I have in the past had insurance for my cats but they are all too old now. You can't get insurance on animals past the age of eight at least that's what I read in the policy. I don't know what it's like in the States. I only know what it is in Canada.

I purchased a Term Life for $100,00 and my pet died ten years later and I collected. The Vetenarian made me up a death certificate. I also had a birth certificate and he was a registered Canine. The insurance battled me , but after a threat of a lawsuit, they paid me. There was nothing in the insurance that said it had to be human:)
Food For thought

I don't have insurance on any of my cats and never have.
But owning a pet can get expensive. Even more so if they are predisposed for conditions such as hip dysplaysia(sp?)
