I found pressing flowers is ok in a book but give this a shot. Take waxed paper and put a layer of rose pedals down and a second waxed paper on top and press with an iron. This will seal the petals and can be stored flat. Make sure there is extra paper on the edges, which will keep air and moisture out. I tried this with fall leaves about 2 years ago. These colorful leaves retained their color and stayed supple. I would give it shot since you want to save them for a good while. They may even retain their smell. Have fun.
