Because the military base is considered to be military soil and we are Americans so you get a U.S. birth certificate. You also get one of the country you are in at the time. My son was born in Germany and he has a German bc and an American one. The one that looks like it came from the hospital and is all frilly is not the real one. It is a Form number so and so and is very start looking. It just has listed the parents names and the date of your birth. It is very important that you keep this in a safe place as you cannot duplicate it as it has to go to the Consular of the country in which you were born. I have always kept those documents until my son got married and I gave them to him as a present.hahahaha

A US military base is NOT american soil for the purpose of citizenship by birth. However, if one or both of your parents were citizens when you were born, then you - as you already know - acquired US citizenship at birth, regardless of where you were born.

If you were born as a US citizen overseas, whether on a military base or not, the only birth certificate you need or can get is the consular report of birth. You can get copies at

Yes. A Us military base overseas is considered US soil. YOu can get a birth certificate, and you can actually become the president, which is something I cannot do. I was born of american parents, but in a german hospital. I am a US citizen, but cannot become the president.

If you were born to US citizens overseas then yes. But if your mom is not a US citizen and your dad is then I believe you would be a citizen to where your mother is. You would have to be a citizen of the US to get a certificate from here

Are your parents citizens of the US? If so you are an American citizen and you may obtain a US birth certificate.

You can ask your parents (which can ask their commanding officer if they are still in the military) or go to the local courthouse or muncipal building. However, you should have a birth certificate anyway.

you should already have one. if not a us military base is us soil, so you technically should be able to get one. start out by going down to your local county clerk, they should be able to tell you where to get one if you provide a place of birth.
