Simple. If you lazily keep yourself ignorant of actual facts, it is easy to believe anything.

I think you may have a wrong idea about "theists."
Here's the dictionary definition:
"belief in the existence of one God viewed as the creative source of man and the world who transcends yet is immanent in the world."
I consider myself to be a theist (or deist), and I have no problem whatsoever reconciling God with evolution.
Maybe you meant "fundamentalist Christians" who believe in the literal Bible - i.e. Adam and Eve, the Garden of Eden, the seven days (literally) of creation.

I'm a theist (I believe in God) but I don't accept any scriptures as "word" of God. Instead I believe that the cause and effect and laws of order, circumstance, action to reaction, are signs of intelligent design. For some strange reason I think of evolution as a sign of intelligent design, and of a God.

It is possible that when we send the young people to the next earth with technology and the old bible that they may not form a civilization and become so badly inbred that they will become close to the apes in appearance again. Another implantation of man and a bible would become necessary for that earth to progress as we have. We have progressed so well that we are not likely to become cave men again in this cycle of life .

I believe that God was the motivating force behind evolution. As we mature, we find better words to explain this fact. I don't believe evolution contradicts the bible, as a matter of fact, I think it upholds it. We are given what we can understand as to Who God is as we mature as a race. Young race, simple answers. Maturing race , complicated answers. They are still the same answer. As the Navajo and Lakota say. "What is, is."

The Bible clearly warns against homos getting erections and as for Australians picking their nose, well the Bible doesn't say, but I'm sure it's frowned upon.

I'm Roman Catholic, so I don't know if I count: I'm Franciscan...we're pretty "liberal," if you MUST label us.....

Catholics have NO PROBLEM with evolution. PROTESTANTS (and even then, not all of them) are the ones YOU have a problem with.

We LIKE science. In fact, a LONG TIME AGO, the pope himself said that Catholicism and science were COMPLETELY COMPATIBLE.

Someone explain to me why I still have to clarify that? Please?

The Devil put your evil fossils there and then invented universities and science so that evil scientists would learn about those fossils and spread lies about them, causing people to doubt God. The Devil likes that!

They do not fit into traditional christianity. There are other options however for those who have met God.
