Put baking soda in the container you store the pipe in.

Pack it in a freezer sized ziplock bag. I use zippy bags for lots of things. When I go away, I put my shampoo and liquids in a bag so if they leak, they leak in the bag and not all over my clothes..

Can't you clean it first? Use acetone. If it's uncleanable, get one that is.
