I think that local law enforcement should be able to respond to a situation they find. If they stop someone for running a red light and the person turns out to be an undocumented alien, then they should and should be able to arrest them and proceed according to the system. If there is an area that local officers are aware of that is a local hiding place for illegal aliens and they want to pursue it they should certainly be able to do that.
Truthfully, I think that local forces have enough to do, and shouldn't be expected to actively investigate and expend a lot of time and effort to enforce immigration laws as a primary responsibility.

No. Immigration is a national issue. Local PD's do not have the resources or authority to enforce immigration laws. In some cases, I believe they should assist the Customs and Naturalization Service (Border Patrol, etc), in making arrests.

In my country, Police Officers are empowered to exercise in all enforcement laws. A police officer is also a Custom, Immigration,Enviroment, Public Health officers etc etc in addition to his normal police duties but a Custom or Immigration officers can only enforce the law in department they are in and cannot do a policemen duty or made any arrest other then the department concern.

It should not be the primary focus of their duties. All sworn officers are supposed to enforce all laws, which would include immigration laws. In my experience as a cop, it is pretty useless to try to enforce an immigration violation. Nothing ever comes of it.

Absolutely!! Why make it more difficult? But the fact is the law is not enforced by anyone. I think they are waiting until the United States becomes a poor, third world country and then it will be too late.

there are so many illegal immigrates it boggles the mind and unfortunately there isn't enough law enforcement officers to gather up those that are not breaking any other law except being illegal... there are plenty of illegal immigrates in local/ county jails now that have broke other laws there is just not enough room for them all. unfortunately it does not do a lot of good just to bus them back....they keep returning

No because they have other duties and there is a shortage of police officers as it is, but then again perhaps if they did enforce immigration laws, it might decrease harassment of the general public.Unnecessary violence, rape, and other infractions of the law are on the rise in El Paso, Texas. I referring to these acts committed by the police dept. themselves. Amazing.

Tear down the boarder between the USA and Mexico and take over the country and made them another state added onto the U.S. .
This would cure the problem of illegal immigration and make the U.S.A. even bigger and stronger then it currently is. I think it would be a profitable idea. What do you think ?
