The lie, for the answerers, is actually contained in your response. The lie is that he died 'serving his country'. We, the general population of 350 million have no vested interest in this war. Not lower gas prices, since they're obviously rising and will continue to do so; not the forcible infusion of democracy in order to stabilize things (yeah...that worked); not even American expansionism. This is a corporate war.

That's right - I said the C word.

The lie is that there is anything noble about this cause. Wars like this - fought for profit and ideology - are the lies.

Now, I do not detract one moment from any of the millions of individuals who whave chosen to serve, and continue to do so, despite many of them disagreeing with the administration, its policies, Iraqi policies, etc...

I too served, and I salute those people who get up every day and cloak themselves obedience and service. Come home safely!

But all too often, they don't come home safely. Of course the LIES are not worth the price paid by grieving mothers, fathers, grandparents, children, siblings and friends. Lives can not be replaced. This isn't some clear cut situation in which we are fighting a direct threat. This is putting soldiers on the frontline of terrorism, fear, and oil politics, and letting their lives bear the burden of the cost.

He died doing what a lot of us wouldn't have the guts to do. He's a hero and should be honored for what he did.
Sadly, these are the images that everyone always insist of putting out there. It's like if a military member does something wrong, that's headline news. What about all the military people that have done so much good, but nobody ever wants to put that on the news. And just like when a service member dies, though I believe we should all be aware of it, and see the family of the person who gave their life to defend others freedom, it would also be nice to put some of the nicer pictures out there too. People like you think that by using a picture like this, and a headline that reads Was the lie worth the loss, is going to put doubts in the minds of anyone who might support the war or President Bush. Why don't you pass around the pictures of Iraqi men coming up to our soldiers and shaking their hands and thanking them for all they have done. Or a solider sitting with an Iraqi baby in his arms and giving that baby clean water to drink. I could go and on. I've seen those pictures, but it doesn't seem that too many Americans have, or they just forgot.
Yes, it's heartbreaking every time we lose a military member in this war, but as a military wife, I stand very proud of our Armed Forces. They don't want to die, but they are willing to die for what is right. I will continue to shed tears for each fallen solider and their families, and I will continue to smile, and shed a few tears, for each solider that makes it home safely and into the loving arms of his or her family.

If you are talking about that the reasons for going into Iraq were a lie then I guess every intelligence service in the world, ex-president Clinton, Colin Powell, Sec of State, The Joints Chiefs, and just about everyone else on the planet who had any knowledge of Saddam Hussein were all lying.

Maybe you mean about the UN resolutions. Which one of the 17 that he violated over 14 years was a lie????

Perhaps, Saddam Hussein himself was lying when he stated a few years prior that Iraq had WMD.

I guess the bombing of the Barak Reactor by the Israelis was based on a total lie. Hussein would not have produced nuclear weapons it was all for peaceful uses. Even though Hussein himself said it was for nuclear weapons to "protect" Iraq. Just like Irans nuclear program is for peaceful uses. If you believe all of that is lies then you truly believe this to be truth and that is scary!!!!

You have a strange idea of what a lie is; maybe you and Bill Clinton should get together!!!

If you are talking about the media and some other groups giving aid and comfort to the enemy than no. If you are talking about a US President doing his best to defend freedom throughout the world than there is no lie. Since the UN was founded, the US military has been it's enforcement arm. For about the last 12 years, more corrupt countries have been gaining power in the UN that has caused it to being more anti-American at the same time that it demands more money and involvement of the military without American leaders.

What lie. There was nothing there about a lie. All that was shown there, was about a young man who bravely gave his life for his country, his family and his friends. War is never an easy thing, no one likes war, but sometimes it's the only way to get the job done and help people, who have no way of helping themselves. Life is about life and death, but to give your life fighting for something you believe in, I would think would be worth it, no mater what the out come. All that matters is you know why your doing this, and that it's important to you.

Where is the lie? This MAN died defending your freedom and did so with pride and professionalism. The Cindy Sheehans and the rest of the opportunists who would use the ultimate sacrifice of another just to enhance their own worth and gain face time for their 15 min of fame are the lowest of the low.

I guess by the phrasing of the question you are one of these, so I wont hold my breath for best answer :)

Your news link has expired ...and no lie is worth a loss, unless loss is a good thing!
Who's watching, who's deciding?

We live in a relative world and what is OK and good for one person is not good or OK for another person. The exact same thing, yet different to different eyes.

This war is about oil and profit!George W doesn't give a rat,s *** about who dies and who lives as long as the profits are up.George's cousin wired the twin towers to implode them and drop them like a Los Vegas Casino just to get into this war and hundreds of US soldiers will die while he and The Skull and Crossbones club rack up the profits.

I would like to tell his family I appreciate what his son did. He is a hero in my book for defending freedom and justice. That man is a hero, unlike you who only cares about what makes you feel good and what is easy. That man had 10 times the balls you ever will, even if you get in a sex scandal like Clinton.
