I think SOMEBODY should ... be it the cops, the INS ... whoever ... as it stands now, I doubt if cops are even ALLOWED to enforce the immigration laws ... I honestly do think there's some kind of weird conspiracy at the top to sell this country down the Swanney to the highest, or any, bidder ... name ONE patriot in Washington who cares about the American people ... just ONE ...

Yes the Government has failed in it's efforts to control immigration laws and rarely even enforces them. The INS is so backed up, so overwhelm that it's a complete joke no wonder everyone feels free to come over and why not there is no work site enforcement just the honour system and document fraud can supply anyone with any name and ss number you need. The problem is a local and state problem besides being here illegal why should a certain section of people have the right to lie,cheat and steal with little or no regard to the laws of the land.This is not a perfect world and times have changed we can no longer depend on the government to stop this invasion we need further help with this and what better way then to have the local police who see and know what's going on every day be in powered to enforce the law. So yes we need a better system the one in use is a complete failure

Yes, if the Local Police can enforce laws being broken by large Corporation when they distort the law in their favor.

Also large powerful Corporations that hire sub-contractors to find and deliver immigrates that well work very hard for very low wages, survive under conditions that Americans would not even consider working, live like homeless person, have no protection from abuse, discrimination or criminal behavior.

Yes give the local Police some real power and have them arrest the powerful to protect the weak.

Lets face it, Americans our getting real accustomed to living off the sweat and pain of non-Americans. And Corporations hire truck loads of people they know are illegal and subject to being preyed upon by the powerful.

So, I say give the Local Police the power to arrest and jail the CEO's of powerful Corporations that hide behind warehouses of Corporation lawyers. The CEO's and their lawyers really do need a little insight into the spirit-of-the-law, and maybe a little jail time would do it.

I sure think SOMEONE should enforce immigration laws, and heaven knows the federal government isn't doing it.

I would prefer the federal government do it so people aren't afraid to call the police. However, the web of sanctuary laws and 'mustn't ask at school, health care or on routine stop' rules have made it so it absolutely looks like we don't want to enforce our laws. The majority of this country DOES want the laws enforced. So now, yes, on stops for traffic or anything else I think definitely they should ask routinely. Maybe you don't ask the person or their family who calls a policeman for help, but that is it.

I certainly believe it isn't 'bad' to ask immigration status, either, when people sign up for services. Granted you may not want to deny them the services, you should be able to enforce our laws at the same time.

No. Local police are paid by the local people to enforce local laws. Local police have local law enforcement expertise. They should stick to what's written on their individual position description in the personnel dept.

Somebody needs to do 'the jobs that the government won't do', so unfortunately, I think part of the enforcement role is going to end up falling on the local P.D. It's sad, but that's what it's going to boil down to, I understand that one jail is already presenting Mexico for a bill for services rendered, something like 400,000 dollars, something like that, never heard if it got paid, or not, but I think that's a good step in the right direction, holding the country of Mexico financially accountable for the conduct of their citizens while they're in the United States, legally, or otherwise.

If you emigrate, that's one thing. But there's people that aren't even pretending to emigrate, or in any way even try to comply with laws. If that's not 'criminal trespass', I don't know what is, I think the local police dept's should have FULL access to INS/ICE resources, and vice versa, because it'll probably take a group/team effort to really get this one solved. America's going to have to pick up the tab for all of this one way or another, may as well that some of it goes towards fixing the problem rather than just perpetuating it....Mexico can provide for its' own, easy, instead of coercing/cajoling them to all to move to the United States. Why harp on Mexico? Because Mexico's got the larger share of claim to illegal aliens inside the United States.

Some people don't like the idea of deportation, but fair's fair, meaning fairness for the people that were born in the USA to parents that've been citizens or at the very least entered the country legally. But, anything below/beyond that, it's really questionable, I support the work permit concept, as long as it's duly enforced, if it can't be effectively enforced, then no such program should be possible until such time as they figure out how to do it right.

Are most mexicans really a threat? Probably not, but this northward migration's gone on for decades, and 'si, se puede' is basically a dare to the whole country, something like 'catch us if you can', and yes, WE can, by power of the vote, enact legislation that will provide various and sundry enforcement entities including the local P.D. to dispatch the problem forthwith, and finally have done with the whole business. It's gonna make a lot of people mad, and there'll be a lot of arguing, but you have to realistically ask just how much of this business america can play host to, and if you go by the papers at all, it sure looks like a lot of communities AND individual people are about fed up with it, and taking their own local actions, there's proposals out there to lay fines and lawsuits down on employers and would-be employers of illegals, the House is taking forward the legislation that'll finally do some thing concrete, IN concrete, to physically deter persons from attempting to enter the United States other than in lawful fashion at official border crossing points, which is a great step in the right direction, long overdue, but better late than never! LOL

Mexico's having an election today. It's really important that the citizens of Mexico understand that this isn't a 'hate' thing, it's a cleaning-up of business between countries for the betterment and safety of all. We don't want severed heads and god knows what else in america. They need to clean their own backyard instead of trying to export their problems to america. Nuff said.

I think local police officers should have the right to shoot you if they say stop and you don't.

I think local police officers should be allowed to use their Stun guns as often as they feel safe.

I think if local police officers say get down...and you refuse...they should have the right to stomp you to the ground to make you obey.

I think local police officers need THAT much latitude before we saddle them with enforcing immigration laws. Their job is thankless enough as it is.

They should enforce ALL the locally-made laws, and use common sense to enforce any laws of the country's governoring body that they are appointed to carry out in their jurisdiction.

Definitely! Illegal aliens are law breakers and the police are there to enforce the law. Presently, their hands are tied, because they are not authorized to arrest IA's. That is why IA's are so brazen that they openly hang out in front of Home Depots waiting to be hired for day labor.
