This confusion is perfectly normal, especially at your age. My advice is: Don't make up your mind now. It's too soon.

Congratulations on your upcoming quincianera. I can see, though, why it presents a problem to one who is questioning her beliefs. If you can't discuss it with your family or your priest, then try to find someone trustworthy to listen to your doubts. If that's not possible, perhaps writing it down in a journal will help (be careful to keep it away from prying eyes, of course).

I think you may have to go through the rituals just because they're unavoidable. There's nothing wrong with that, as you're still a minor and such decisions are up to your parents.

You are still a child hon! My wife is Catholic and I am not. Our children are though. Talk with your family about this and probably not your Priest. This should be a family issue for you. Religion is based on our own interpretation of the Bible. The Priest, Ministers, Mullahs, etc all try to tell a story of something that happened long ago that was told by others and others and others. Your Priest is there to help you with questions that you may have about the Bible, but what you should do is try an interpret it for yourself.

Don't be afraid to ask a minister these same questions. I'm Lutheran. Lutherans and Episcopalians are pretty darn close to Catholics as far as beliefs and tradition go. But we are also pretty open minded. Just because your Catholic now doesn't mean you have to be Catholic your whole life. Freedom of Religion is a right given to all Americans and citizens living in this country.

You are a human being. You are also young. We are not Jesus, not even close. We try to live a life that was expressed to us by Jesus. But we also need to be happy with ourselves, our bodies, our husbands and wives. If we have a happy and fullfilling marriage with each others need being met, then we have a happy family. You will find this out (hopefully) as you age. Keep an open mind, do good for others, try to live by the commandments, pray, and believe in something good. Make the world a little better off than before. That is what Jesus wants all of us to do. And Muhammad said the same as well, just a few hundred years later!

I will say this though, GOD is real, never doubt that. You can call him anything you want too, GOD, Jehovah, Allah, Dude, it is just a name. But there is a God and miracles are performed everyday. I've even seen a few in my day!

I'm an athiest, but I'll chime in.

I feel religion is a personal thing, not a group thing. As such, you have a right to choose. Just because your familiy is in certain religion, that doesn't mean you have to.

I also feel, a religon that allows people question IT are healthy ones. By questioning it, you may find it is not for you, or you may even deepen your committment. If you have a chance to question it and your question answered, and if you STILL believe in it, your beliefs are that much deeper.

There are some religion in the world where questioning it is not allowed. I've seen those who believe in IT (name of religion withheld on purpose) go wild once they are in environment when others are not watching. That is not a religon in my mind. That's a social control.

I would suggest you have a discussion with your family and express your desires. Although you have a right to choose, it may become a concern for your family and be a problem at family gathering.

Good luck.

I was once a catholic and many of the things that are going on in the church don't make sense. Im a baptist now but that doesnt mean u should be too im just trying to say that before u quit religion try another one. There are many religions out there and there is one for you. You dont have to have a religion to worship god and follow the bible.

P.S. catholic families are known to grow hate if you switch religions.

being non-religious is perfectly ok . I mean if everyone else jumps off the cliff to their deaths are you going to jump too?
I have been an atheist all my life although I had to sit through catholic indoctrination and I'm perfectly ok . I have also masturbated all my life and are a healthy specimen of the homo sapiens sapiens.
As far as answering that quincianera question it's superfluous if you're an atheist but it might let you off the hook with your peeps you will get to party tho . At confession I always had to pull something out of my *** to tell the priest I'm shure you do the same...

I was 17 when I started questioning my Catholic faith. I eventually became an atheist. I am very happy as one. I know that there is no god out there that is going to help or guide me through my life. I know that I can't just say a prayer and everything will be better. I also know, like you mentioned, that doing things that are healthy and non-harmful is not sinning. Sin is just something to make you feel guilty.

Whatever you do, spend a lot of time thinking about it and then don't be ashamed of your decision or try to hide it from your family.

Believe what you know in your heart is true. Plenty of people that go to church don't agree with everything that is said. (I think all the masturbation and birth control is bad is nuts). I would go through with the catholic rituals and understand that a lot of this about your family and your culture. Take what is good from the church in terms of beliefs and leave all the rest. I think all the saints are cool and a lot of Mexican Catholic culture is cool, but that's just me. When you are older you get to choose whether you go to church and which one.

Sounds to me like you might be wising up. The decision you need to make is simple. Strengthen your faith and live the rest of your life happy and stupid, or decide not to be a hypocrite and stay away from God-sanctioned brainwashing cults.

What does your family being misguided have to do with your life? If you are just believing in God because thats what they expect of you then your just going through the motions for someone elses benefit. Do you really think God is stupid enough not to know the difference?

I'm not catholic, I'm Lutheran. But as for masturbation it is worng, and so if it helps you I will admit that I have done it, and am still trying to quit entirely. I know it's wrong cause every time I do it, I regret it, feel estranged from God, and feel bad for doing it.

You need to come to God, and get baptized because without the Spirit leading you through life you are more likely to fall into Satan's hands. He will never abandon you, though you can choose to wander away or reject the Spirit he is always waiting and trying to help you return to God.

You are right about the chtholic religion. Thay are Idolators. This is supported in there history and blantent disregard of the bible. What you need in a good King James Version of the Bible. If you read and ask for understanding. God will show you the way.
