I think it is a distraction even for the most experienced driver. Your main focus is to get from point A to point B in a safe manner. Some conversations are not that urgent. But if the person has a earpiece I guess it's ok because then it would be like talking to someone sitting right next to you.

research out this week shows that drivers reaction time is significantly higher for a hand held device and still high for a handsfree device. The problem is the brain tends to focus on the conversation and when something happens it takes several seconds longer to act.
The only safe thing to do is to set your answer service to a message saying "Sorry I am driving at the moment, please leave a message and I will get back to you."
Is the life of a man, woman or child worth risking for the sake of a phone call? And remember the life at risk will also be your own!!!

It's OK in all but a few states. It's only a distraction if it causes you to drive badly. Remember that next time you're screwing with your radio, eating a taco, drinking a soda, doing your makeup, or staring at the hottie in the next car.

It depends upon the state. Some states have laws against it some don't. The state where i am from does not have an official law against it but you can still be cited for inattentive driving (basically not paying attention to your driving).

It appears that the average population is unable to do two things at once so for them the answer is no. As for the legal aspect, you need to check with your local police dept. there may be laws restricting it as in Chicago. Personally I don't see a problem with it as long as it is not effecting your performance and if it is there are already laws to deal with that.

well depends on your definition of OK
if you mean safe: then no. countless studies have proven this (logic tells you that too)
if by OK you mean legal, then it depends.
Illinois passed a law making it illegal if you are under 18.
so check your local laws to see if it is OK legal.

I don't think it is against the law but it should be. It is dangerous, if someone wants to hurt or kill thier self that's fine but they might kill me

YOU SHOULD PROBABLY CONCENTRATE ON DRIVING. I HAVE SEEN MANY ACCIDENTS AND NEAR MISSES FROM PEOPLE TALKING ON THE PHONE AND "DRIVING".
