America has always been seen as a land of opportunity. Everyone wants a better life for themselves and their future children. Current immigration laws were enacted in the 1800's to stem the flow of what people saw as "undesirable" immigrants (Non-Anglo-Saxons). It's the "NIMBY" outlook: "Now that I have my piece of the pie, why should I share it with someone else wanting a piece of the pie?" I understand that, for security purposes, you have to know who is in the country and who is entering the country, but you shouldn't use that as a means to discriminate against people.

I understand all that. Good people wanting a better life, yes. Why can't they attempt to do it legally? The thing I have a problem with is...what about all the other people from different countries? People who come hiding on boats almost dying only to be detained and sent back when the boat docks? What about the people who are now having a more difficult time getting here legally because of illegal immigrants? Why couldn't these good people have bothered to fill out the mounds of paperwork, and scrape the money together by sending one family member at a time? Not all the legal immigrants are made of money, they actually worked and went through all the hoops to get where they are now. And they pay taxes!!!

So's the rest of Mexico, eunice, and while you see the 'honest, hard-working types that do the jobs americans won't do', a good portion of the country is looking at the escalating costs of operating our roads, schools, hospitals, and jails, and realizing that too many years of really liberal policies have set the country up for a Big Loss in the form of BILLIONS and MORE BILLIONS being expended to support a lot of mexicans in the style to which we've made them accustomed.

You're an american citizen, feel like signing over the deed to the ranch? Hand over your car keys? Let the neighbors move in and squat on your lawn? Well, in terms of national policy, that's about what's happened.
Charity and generosity are one thing, and should be done on a case-by-case basis. However, the biggest gift you can give someone is the knowledge and capacity to do for THEMSELVES, and if we took THAT line with mexico instead of what's been happening, there'd be no immigration problem. Or with other countries, if a similar approach were taken. Corruption's the problem on this one, lots of people stand to make a MINT off of screwing around with the border(s), Mexico's got the means and then some to tend the needs of their citizens, but they won't do it as long as that door's open. I mean, your vote is your own, do with it as you please. I'm voting in favor of better border controls, and sanctions against employers that hire people with no lawful right to be in our country. You either enforce the laws, or have the laws stricken from the books. Which do you want? Mexico would really like to move in, please...se habla espanol?

I agree and disagree////fact is that illigals are being discriminated,,and critized for So called using federal support, first of all, in order for some one to recieve federal support, i.e. food stamp, housing, medicare, or any type of assistance they have to be a legal residence, now if there is a deficite in the economy due to the overwhelming use of those federal assistance, you guys should question your own, and I am not talking ethnic wise I am talking as a nation, we argue that illigals are using up our federal funds, but they are not, the ones using those federal funds are the us citizen,.,.,.,And the problem with immigration has to start with the latin americans, living legally in the Usa, We tend to go to our country to visit our family and we tend to tell them how great it is over here, and they should come and work there, and we go there and flount our material possesions, and they like that, they want to have a brand new truck, they want to own a home, but in accuality, there is no such thing as an american dream anymore, those days are overwith, I remember when people in the USA, were so kind to illigal immigrants they accepted us with an open arm, and since the wave of illigal immigrant have over fload the nation ,we had been getting many diferent type of immigrant, we have good immigrant and bad immigrant, time has changed, we as a nation should find a way to improve the immigration system and legalize hard working immmigrants and the trouble makers to be removed from this country.....

We can't afford so many. I know a big reason they come is for a better life for their children because education isn't free in Mexico and other countries. However education isn't 'free' anywhere, someone pays for it. In this case it is subsidized for the poor by the middle class, who also send their children to those schools. Those schools are now underfunded and overcrowded in our border states, and the ESL programs are the only special education programs routinely funded. That isn't fair.

When it was in the thousands, even when it was a million, we didn't have such a problem. However, through sheer numbers it has really become a situation where their better life is at the expense of our children and health care programs, and we are footing the bill.

Whether they are otherwise nice people or not isn't the point. We need our schools and health care for our own people who aren't adequately served. There isn't enough to go around. There certainly isn't enough to give away to millions of others.

Why can't illegal immigrants understand that?

America is a nation of immigrants, but there is a problem, some governments try to get rid of the "bad guys" by letting them go through the border and "these guys" cause trouble for the good guys. Don't forget about terrorism either, it's going to cause chaos in America if illegal immigration goes unchecked. Also, there a bunch of countries from Latin America that move through Mexico and into the U.S. I propose that the U.S. help Mexico build an industrial area on the Mexican side of the border with a transportation system for those that work in the U.S. so that they can return to their homeland after work.

Not trying to seems like an azzhole here, but why can't YOU understand that a hard-luck story doesn't exempt you from having to own up to breaking the law? Go to a prison and talk to some of the people there. If you can get it out, every single one of them has a hard luck story. And most of them are legal citizens. They got NO exemption.

So the question is, why should the hard-luck story of an illegal Mexican alien make them exempt from the law when the hard-luck story of a legal citizen doesn't? Are illegal Mexican aliens more special then the rest of us?

Why should a Mexican alien get special exemption from having to follow the laws of the land and the legal immigration process when an immigrant from say, China, doesn't? You people are asking us to give special treatment to you based soley on your race. I haven't seen ANY protests from the Mexican protesters demanding rights for illegal Chinese aliens. The reason is because they/you only want this soft-handed treatment from one race of people, Mexicans. And that, ma'am, absolutely REAKS of racism. Why can't you people understand?

Why can't you understand that is no excuse, They do not have a right to invade our country, just to work, and I am sure most are very good people, but the criminals are coming with them thousands of them, their is no screening for criminals or diseases, most don't want to be American they just want work to send money home and we don't need those kind of people, we need people that want to blend into our society, and they want no part of it, they want their own language and customs and they don't want to be bothered with any thing else. In Mexico the parents are sending their kids across the border of Arizona to go to American schools the kids are not citizens and the parents either, and we are paying for it. and the authorities do nothing. The economist say they are costing us billions of dollars, and it is not fair that our politicians do not protect us from this invasion, they took an oath to do that, and they are betraying us, and the Mexican Americans don't like it either, especially the ones in the border states. ignorance of the law is no excuse, but they no it is illegal, if it were the other way around I would be a felon in Mexico, and I would get a prison sentence of 5 years then deported.

Some are very good people, and some are very bad people ... and ALL of them are criminals, i.e. they have violated the laws of the United States by entering here illegally! Why is THAT so hard to understand?

By the way, why should we make exceptions for Mexicans? By the same token, we should let in 12 million people from China, heck, they could do with a better life too ... 12 million from India, some severe poverty there ... 12 million from ANY African country you would care to mention ... etc., etc. What's so special about Mexicans?? Is it just because they are our closest neighbour? Why does that give them the right to invade us?? And why should we tolerate it? Why???

I think everyone understands that. But what immigrants don't understand is that by coming here in large numbers hurts US society. A perfect example is the LAUSD school system. It is not fair for someone to come here for a better live (ILLEGALLY!!!) and hurt the quality of live for those who are here legally. Why is that so hard to understand. Illegal immigrants are selfish and only care about their own well-being and obviously have no regard for the legal system. Does that sound like someone you would want in your country?

Hmmm. Why can't people understand that there are prostitutes selling their bodies and people who join gangs and sell drugs right here in the U.S because they feel they have nothing else to do to make money to feed their families? What's the difference?
Not one thing. You are both committing an illegal act to get money. Laws are what make this country great, perhaps if Mexico had less corruption and laws that benefitted all their people, they might understand that. There are people from other countries much poorer than Mexico, and they wait there turn.
What exempts Mexico from this, why do you think Mexico should be above the laws?
