because they feel invincible when they are drunk, or they say im not that drunk i can drive... basically the alcohol cuts the reasonable sense in their brain out and makes them completely STUPID!!!!!

The reason most people drink and drive is the fact their judgement is altered by the amount they drink. Most have no intention of driving but after having comsumed alcohol they have the feeling they are not drunk and are just as able to drive as before. If asked most would say they would not drive after drinking but that does seem to change after just a few drinks.

Not much more than a pint is the limit Everyone is different but a pint is probably about the marker. It used to be closer to 2 pints but they reduced it. It's unfortunate that they can't find a way to test if you're drunk rather than the exact amount of alcohol in your system. So many people get banned for driving in the morning because they still have alcohol in there ststem even though there sober.

because once the alcohol reaches the brain the first thing it affects is judgement. after a couple of drinks, the alcohol gives the person a false sense of power and they think that they are fully capable of driving, however they are not and do not realise it unless a sober person prevents them from driving. even though the legal bac is .08 no matter how much alcohol you consume, your judgement is always affected and that in turn affects your driving. people who drink and drive are careless and selfish and should be permitted a reality check as to the amount of pain and suffering they cause others when they drink for pleasure and then drive. they are just flat out stupid, inconsiderate, irresponsible, and unknowing of the problems they present when they take that first drink. check out www.madd.org for more info

because there are two specific things they think they need to do: drink and drive. they think they need to drink perhaps because they're depressed, they don't care anymore, they think the booze will eliminate problems, or probably because all their friends/acquaintences at a party/gathering drink because it supposedly raises spirits. also, they think they need to drive because in their experience it has been the most efficient and accessible means of going from one place to another--specifically, from the party/gathering to their house.
so, we often have a conflict that these people refuse to consider or solve, since drinking impairs driving. still, they are lazy and don't want to be inconvenienced by this conflict since they think picking a non-drinking driver in their group of friends or calling a cab is too much work. as a result, even innocent people die in crashes and accidents from drinking and driving.
the only solutions seem to include simply trusting people's judgement, which doesn't seem like a good thing because many people think they are capable as individuals to effectively drink and drive and are thereby foolish. another option is to catch and punish drunken drivers by jailing them and limiting their privileges. we're trying that, but obviously we can't find all drunken drivers before accidents do/do not occur. the other option, which is less favorable, is to totally illegalize drinking, driving, or both. it seems obvious that this is not a proper solution because people like drinking and people like driving, so i must conclude by saying that each person should consider the consequences of drinking and driving, try to be rational, and not do it. also, law enforcement should try to crack down more on drunken drivers, but they should also try to concentrate on things like robberies when they come up. the hero strikes again!

People drink and drive because they are stupid and care for nothing but themselves. It doesn't matter who you are or where you are from, every human being is selfish in his/her own way and because of that when people drink and drive they don't think about what could happen to other people. Not to mention, drinking lowers peoples inhibitions and makes stupid people stupider.

Because in human nature there is that feeling of immortality. We get the "oh it wont happen to me" attitude and we go off on our merry way. People have to understand that drinking and driving do not go hand in hand and you can be a statistic just like anyone else who drinks and drives.

Being under the influence of any form of drugs or alcohol distorts your judgement. Many normal law abiding people make the mistake of driving while intoxicated because they think they still can do so and perform safely.
