Keep lights on, play music, keep a fan going, give him one of your dirty tea shirts, try to play with him before and during to keep him distracted. Whatever it takes just don't condole him too much or he'll think it's okay to be scared.

Our dog was terrified of firecrackers and storms too. She would run away from home for days everytime she heard these things. She would actually break windows trying to escape the noise, so we would just open the door for her so that she wouldnt get hurt. I never found a solution to calm her during storms and stuff, so I'm very interested in what people say about this. Good luck! I wish you the best.

Dogs tend to be scared of firecrackers. The loud noises hurt their ears and they really don't know what to make of the whole spectacle. This goes for all dogs, from those wimply little pocket pets right up through the " I am somebody" dogs which seem to be just barely smaller than a horse.
Your best bet is to put the dogs into a room with the tv on loud so that they don't hear the fireworks so well. It will keep them calmer. Don't take the family pet to the fireworks display. They will be terrified of it.
If you need to have a dog who can handle it, you'll have to expose it to fireworks on a regular basis, working slowly up from the little ones to the larger ones. This may take some time (weeks, months), may not be successful, and will probably gather the attention of the local constabulary.

When there is a storm just keep the dog close to you they will feel safer also keep the tv on or radio on at a high volume so they wont hear the firecrackers. When they do go off ( firecrackers) and he does not do any thing praise him let him know that everything is ok and nothings going to happen. Play with him as well keep his mind off whats going on outside.

My dog was afraid of thunderstorms--she was left out in one as a puppy. When it was storming she'd immediately go and find me, mom, or Dad, and when she'd come to me I'd make her nest of blankets to lie in, then sit with her and pet and hug her until the storm passed. She always seemed to like that. If your dog hates firecrackers, don't take him places where they're going to be set off.

My dog was afraid of that too. One night during a storm he was afraid so I had to sit up all night with him, and just pet him and talk to him and stuff. I just comforted him the same way I would a a child. It worked (except everytime there was a storm after that, he'd jump into my bed!) oh well..

Well, I donrt know why you'd want to erase this helpful fear (almosrt all animals have it) but if you can, a dog wisperer or hypnotherapist. The reason why dogs hate loud noises is actually because their ears are much, much more scensitive than ours, and can hear noises 12 times lower than humans can hear. So just imagine a firecraker being as loud as standing next to a jet fighter engine, and you know what he is hearing. They have the hate for loud noises lkike that to keep their hearing.

Yes there is actually. My dog has the same problem. You can go to like Petsmart or something and by him a dog collar for barking. When they bark it shocks them just enough to where they wont want to bark anymore. It definitely works.

My dog used to be scared of that stuff too, we would just put her inside when the weather was bad. I have no idea what else to do.
Have you ever watched the Dog Whisperer?? That man is amazing!! It's all about the vibe you give your dog.
