Why are osteopathic (D.O.) schools easier to get into than allopathic (M.D.) schools?

the requirements (MCAT, G.P.A.) are much lower for DO schools, like 3.0 compared to a 3.5, and a 21 compared to a 30. Why is this when both doctors are equivalent by law?

Historically, DOs end up as general practitioners and MDs end up as higher-paid specialists. Therefore the competition to get into DO schools is less intense.

It is a matter of power and prestige. MD's took it long ago. They look down upon DO's as if it is an inferior degree, but you're right... They are legally allowed to practice the same.

Not to forget... several years ago DO's were given the option to accept an MD degree or retain their DO in the state of California.. They do also maintain their own hospitals in California.

sure, and, of even extra activity, there are some clinical colleges the position, on the time of commencement, you could opt for to receive both an MD or a DO on commencement. in the present day, there is not any distinction contained in the known of guidance between both.

Economics 101 - supply and demand. More people want to be an M.D. than a D.O.

where i come from, Kuwait, Middle East.. it is actually the opposite. DO requires higher GPA and they take less number of students. however, the faculty of dentistry is new here so.. maybe tht will change with time. but so far, it is the apposite around here.

Allopathy (Actually it is moder medicine) is the only system that stands legal scruitiny and so is scientific.
Try having a Homoeopathic hospital for armed forces.
And meditation centers for police.
