It could be (and usually is) picking up trash on the sid e of the road. Or weird things like sorting mail in a non profit place. If you're asking for a friend WINK WINk - always ask if they have something at the dog shelter. I mean if your "friend" likes animals they usually do, but that's the most desirable, so you have to ask for it....

Hi. I think the advice so far has been okay, but the answer to this question depends on two things: the nature of your offense, and your age. If you are an adult, and let's say your offense was a crime against another person, you will not be allowed to perform community service with a helpless population such as the elderly or children. Or, if your crime was violent in nature, you will undoubtedly be assigned community service involving manual labor, that has minimal to no contact with other persons. If you are underage, and your offense was petty, then I suspect that you could do something more meaningful like working with the elderly, or at a soup kitchen feeding the homeless. Whatever you choose, or more likely, whatever is assigned to you, just make sure you log your hours, and have someone at your chosen site, sign off daily the number of hours completed.

You have to work, for free obviously, at any non-profit organization, yes you can pick up trash, or you can work at a hospital, at the local ARC, etc
also, the judge doesn't decide what you do, the community service coordinator, usually someone from the Police Department, lines you up with some work. Although you can suggest places to work.

Well, community service can take many forms, including just simple picking up trash or leaves, or volunteer work in your local community center, or something like that. Maybe volunteering at your local jail? Not sure, you'll have to call em and ask...

It means they got off very easy... They just have to put in a certain amount of hours to a non-profit service. Usually cleaning up parks, or the highways.... Sometimes working at a Goodwill Store... depends on what they are assigned too.

It can be related to the crime. For example, if the charge was for animal abuse, the community service could be cleaning animal shelter kennels.

It is whatever the judge makes you do. Sometimes it is working at a place that needs volunteers, sometimes it is picking up trash on the side of the road, or shoveling feces at the zoo.
