It's extremely practical to install. You don't need it, though. It doesn't do much of anything. It's purpose is to show that the charging system is working, but to be honest, they're not usually accurate enough to be of much use. You're only interested in a scale from 11 volts to 14, and it's really important where 12 is exactly. Most of them are made so that 12 is not marked. It keeps the vendor from being responsible for making them right, I guess.
