Unfortunately, the "best" jobs open to high school kids are probably the fast food jobs - they pay about $8.00/hour (maybe a bit more), and since you're still in high school, you should be able to get 4-to-5 hour shifts and not have to close too often (except on weekends). But you have to have thick skin, because customers can be very rude anywhere, and they tend to come in to those places with the idea that fast food workers are generally idiots.
If you're lucky, perhaps you can find a job in your local library shelving books or something. It might not pay as much, but patrons are probably much nicer, and you'll feel better about yourself if you're not being stepped on by rude arseholes. A friend of mine has a high-school age daughter, and he will *not* let her work in fast food, opting instead to allow her to work someplace that interests her, and she was able to get on there.
Remember, a job shouldn't always be about the money, though I understand that you'll have to make car payments or something and may need to take a somewhat unpleasant job in order to afford the car (and the gas). Good luck with that.

Look on the walls in the boys restroom at school. There should be a few job offers there.
