I have 4mos. chocolate lab. At 3mos I got her second set. I cant remember when to get her next booster shot. I thought the vet said within the next three weeks we'll send you a card so you can bring her in and get her follow-up shots. It's 4wks since and I havent gotten a card yet. I called my mother and she said that she thought the puppy doesnt need another set till 6mos of age but she wasnt sure. (Making it 3months instead of 3wks) Does anyone know for sure? Just so you know I live in Texas, incase there are varying pet vaccinations within each state.

I work at a Vet office in KY and this is how we do it. At about 8wks old new puppies get a Bordatella Vacc, which prevents Kennel Cough(a very contagious disease that dogs can get easily when around other dogs, at a kennel, dog park, or groomer from other dogs). They also get a Distemper, Hepatitis, Lepto, Parafluenza, Parvo, Vaccine (all of these usually come in one shot). On their first visit puppies also get a fecal to make sure they get dewormed for the correct parasites!

We also provided monthly heartworm prevention while the puppies are getting their series of shots.

Now...to answer your question specifically....we give puppies vaccines every 3 wks until they are about 16 wks, getting at least 3 sets of shots. So it sounds like your puppy needs 1 more set of boosters which should include a rabies shot this time!!

Puppies get shots every 3 wks to get the vaccines in their system and protect them from deadly diseases like PARVO!! I would be glad to help you if you have any more questions!!

PS: I LOVE labs!!

A Puppy should get a Distemper vaccine every 3 (three) WEEKS or a total of 3 vaccines before they are 4months old or else they will not build up the proper immunity. And it is very important to have their first rabies at 4 months of age, and then boosted yearly or every 3 years (I do not know your states Rabies laws). There are other vaccines too, like Corona, Kennel cough, Lyme vacc. These are given twice at first then yearly after that.

6 months is right. They always give so many vaccinations it's ridiculous. Personaly I only give Parvo, Distemper, and Rabies.
