What is is anyway? Many movies feature them as murdering beasts. Is this true?

Its basically getting a demon out a person. The priest (usually cathoic) will use holy water to bless the house, and then start praying over the demon-possessed person.

Movies overdramatize this by far. Its not something to play around with, hope that answered your question.

Movies really add alot of drama and shock factor to exorcisms.

I believe that they are real, Ive witnessed it before.

A person may be susceptible to being a home for demons. Reason for this? Dabbling in the ocult, being dedicated to spirits as a baby in a witch home etc. It could even be more extreme, where [people may have had real bad lives and that hurt really never healed and somehow there was a door way for demons to come in.

So the first thing, is you have to recognize there is a demon there.

Exorcising doesnt have to involve smoke or water from priests. Thats just traditional stuff. Truly, what you need, is first confdience that Gods spirit lives in you (if you believe in Jesus, then it does!) and that being a child of God, no demon can hurt you. Ive seen pastors have to speak to that demon and command it to come out. It could take an hour to a couple days!

Its a special calling on those who exorcise, I know I never could do that...well....I wouldnt want to at least.

Exorcising does not involve murdering, hurting or humiliating a peson.

Well thats all i knw for now....

it is trying to get rid of the evil spirit which has possessed the body and soul of the victim. like christians, hindus also believe in exicism, and their are some famous spots like dargahs, and river-sides where it is done. but unfortunately, some times the means adopted are so extreme, that instead of the spirit leaving the body, the victim breathes his last. many a times, mental illnesses like mania, hysteria, and epilepsy are cofused and cosidered possession. there are haunted places, it's proved even in places like u.s., and an individual can get possessed. certain religious devices like the holy cross, the book, and in hindus, some rituals are performed to get rid of the spirits. how far they succeed, is a matter of research!
people like to watch horror films based on this topic, and it's a matter of super natural and esp, to find out more. till then, it remains a mystery.

Nothing called exorcism. Many cultures misinterpret epilepsy and term it "possession by the devil".

No, after Jesus died on the cross the devil and his evil spirits no longer have that kind of power over human life...it ended.

they have been documented by the priests performing them. If there are good spirits out there, there will be bad ones as well
