If you are worried about having a key logger or something on your system, run anti-virus, anti-spyware. Always run a firewall, that can be configured to keep information from being sent from your PC elsewhere without you knowing.

If you mean on your PC, then getting some free anti-adware anti-spyware or anti-virus programs by searching for free versions on google/download.com should help. Although, ISPs can prety much tell everything single thing you do although nobody bothers to look unless the police have a warrant.

A bit paranoid are we? The internet is open so that as long as you are connected you can be spied on. There are ways of minimizing that. the best thing is never go to sites where illegal activity takes place, do not download music you don't pay for, etc.
