It's best not to hold them... they think you are protecting them from each other. Put them down and keep a watchful eye, this is the only way they will get use to being around each other.

My two cats were 5 years old when I brought my golden retriever puppy home at 7 weeks of age. The fat friendly cat was predictably curious and very tolerant. They would even lay down together on my lap. The other cat hated the puppy and wouldn't come inside whenever she could see the pup right there. She would hiss and swat at the dog a lot. Both of them knew how to handle the dog if she got too aggressive and she learned fast just how far to take it with each cat. Eventually the nasty cat got used to her and even goes on walks with us. You just have to let them work it out for themselves. I'm sure your dog will not actually hurt the kitten, after all the kitten is half-grown and will know what to do with her claws and this breed of dog is supposed to get along well with all pets.

keep doing what your doing. It will probably take a good couple of weeks for them to get used to the idea of having each other around, but they will be fine. We have 2 10 year old cats and a 5 year old yellow lab. The cats hissed and scratched at first and were mad as hell that we brought a dog home, but once they realized he wasn't going anywhere and they were still our "babies" they learned to live with it. When we got the dog he could of cared less about the cats. It was more so the cats with the problem. They live together great now. It'll take a little time, but they will adjust. Good luck!

little kittens are really scared of anything that doesn't look like another cat or you. they will eventually get to know each other and be best buddies as long as the puppy doesn't try to hurt the kitten when it is really small. just keep trying to introduce them slowly and maybe pet the dog then the kitten alternating so they both know they are well liked. give it some time the kitten is still teeny-tiny so just be patient they will like each other if the don't hurt each other or have to compete for attention.
good luck!

You're going about it the right way, Fairyprincess. Hold the kitten and puppy and reassure them gently with your voice and touch. Let them smell and see each other. Kitty will settle down and pretty soon they'll be the best of friends. My older cats and dogs have always come around and become good companions. It's much easier with kittens and puppies. They're younger and once they learn you love both of them, there won't be any trouble.

Ours took about 3 months to fully get used to each other and now they are buddies. It just took time for our cat to realize that the dog wasn't trying to kill him, but only wanted to play. Be prepared for hissing (normal) maybe spraying (our cat did) and other out of the ordinary things from your pets until they get accustomed to each other and NEVER leave them alone together until you are sure they will not harm each other. Lots of patience. We were also recommended to get Feliway spray for the cat which was to help calm him and it did seem to work. You can find that at most pet stores. Good luck; it's worth the extra effort.

Well my cat used to literally attack my dog if she even had the patio door open. My dog is 1 and my cat is 2. When we took our dog to the vet, she stayed overnight and for some reason now our cat follows her EVERYWHERE!! They're best friends, so maybe a night away would be good for them. I know it sounds like a silly couple thing, but it might work.
good luck!

I have been in this situation many times ,the thing you are doing wrong is holding them both whilst introducing them. Put them in a room together and just leave them to it ,whilst you watch from a distance ,they will not fight ,within weeks they will ignore one another.feed them seperatly to start with then you can feed them side by side. I have 4 cats and a dog

you can't hold them to introduce them it's best to let it happen naturally.let them co exist together but of course watch them to insure they are not hurting each other, cut the cats nails also because if she gets scared she can hurt the dog by scratching. They will be friends in no time :):):) good luck
