Many of us, perhaps even the majority, instinctively try to assist others when it's within our means. I think part of our humanity is defined by how connected we feel to others. That connectedness promotes empathy and sympathy.
On the selfish side, being appreciated brings us pleasure. I suppose the "points" are a kind of "thank you very much!" But just the fact that my answer is read is usually enough reward. It has included another human in my life.

For me the reason is I have some free time while my husband is at work and I like to find people that look as if they need help. One of the answers to this question was vanity. Maybe for some but as for me I always wanted to be a psychologist or a councilor, but I was to busy raising a family. People have always come to me for advice and this is away, no matter how small I feel like my answer might help someone, just stop and think so they can make the right decision before they do something they might regret.

It's fun. I have actually learned a few things on so..... many different subjects. Hopefully I have helped a few people along the way, by answering to the best of my abilities. Also thru this website I have been introduced to other websites that can help with my questions. All in all it is different, and I will probably get bored with it later but for right now it is entertaining.

I honestly feel that I have a lot of knowledge to share. My zodiac sign is Capricorn and as Capricorns are known for their innate ability to teach, this is an excellent outlet for my talents that are otherwise useless in my hum drum life of being a mother of 2. I know everyone thinks the points are useless but, they do have value for they are necessary for asking questions. There is no telling when I'll need an answer and I will need those points to exchange as currency. Best wishes

To pass on advise or knowledge that someone is seeking. My answer may not be the best one out there, but at least I may be-able to give someone a different point of view, or a different way to do something.

I think everyone has a natural tendency to express their view / feelings.
In case the question / topic is such that they can empathise upon it, then naturally people give their opinion / advise which can be helpful to others.
Its human nature, people like to express themselves.
Just few extra points may not be the key motivator to give answers.

Have you seen the way people write and spell on this site? They need all the knowledge we can give them. The site also boosts self esteem and is usually good for a few laughs which we all need.

In part, to share knowledge in the hopes that any questions I might come up with are answered honestly and seriously. Another reason is because I am bored.

I like to help people, and also to motivate them to think logically about their problems. On some of the questions I just enjoy giving a smart butt answer.
