give her some quarters, you cheapskate!

Tell her you're sorry but you only have enough for the machines you need and suggest a place nearby that-might-have change. Tell her you would if you could spare some and then say something like "you know how it is." Most people will agree that they do and appreciate that you would if you could, even though you wouldn't. And start saving up for your own machines so you don't have to deal with these people anymore.

What I started doing when people would beg for money, I would tell them if your hungry I will buy you something to eat, because most of the time they want to collect the money to get alcohol or something else. If it is for food they will be very great full if not, alot of them will walk away because they just want the money.

well since she's starting constently bother you and probably others who use the facility, the best solution is to tell the owners of the laundromat about her. Hopefully they can convince her to find somewhere else to go or help find her some help.

I think its different for every person - some beggers get mad if you talk to them, some get mad if you don't. treat her like a real person, in any case (because she is!)

I had a guy who 'lived' by the bus stop during the day (I don't think he was homeless, he was always immaculate and not smelly). I had to go to the bus all the time and he would say, "can you spare a few pennies?" with the exact same inflection every time. I would say, "no". Next day, same thing, next day same thing, for almost a YEAR. I finally said, "Look. I have always said no, I will always say no, please do not ever ask me again."

No effect whatsoever. I think he was really a robot...

Haven't had dewy eyed waifs begging quarters......
Except on Capitol Hill where groups of homeless kids hang out.
Older teens ...16-18. Maybe a 20+ or two.
And they send a girl from the group to panhandle middle aged guys:):)
And come to think of it there was a girl that prowled a Supermarket parking lot here in Seattle.
she'd have made more money hooking!!!
Her boyfriend would skulk in the shadows.
Like WILEY COYOTE.

Back in the "old days" some old bum would be panhandling and they were just straight out....need money for booze.

Now I got people panhandling me that are younger, fitter, and better dressed than me.
In a parking lot carrying a little plastic gas can.......a prop.
"I ran out of gas and I got to get to ...."

I get phone call at work from guy claiming to be from Seattle Fire Department.....
Did I check my smoke alarm batteries?
They want to send me two stickers of some kind............
Would I like to make contribution?......say, 60 bucks?
I tell them I am mere worker bee...boss is out.
Would I like to contribute?....say, 40 bucks.
no.
how bout 20 bucks?
Or even 10 bucks?
That is when I smelled a rat!

Had something similar happen when I house sit for friend.
They live in nice neighborhood.....pricier houses..better views of Water and mountains.
Girl at door. Nice looking girl, Healthy,
got some little forest ranger looking get up......sort of.
She is collecting for the BIODIVERSITY PROJECT.
Would I like to contribute 60 Bucks?
no, I am just taking care of the place while they out of town.
Would I like to contribute?........40 bucks....(flaps eyelashes)
20?

Get a kid.....black kid...about 12-13....shows up at door(of friends house). Would I like to contribute to the AMERICAN MISSION?
I have been in the missions here in Seattle when I was drinking.
Never heard of that one.
I tell him .."no thanks"
he walks off in a huff.
Get all kinds of people walking through neighborhoods($$) collecting for one thing or another. And sometimes I hear they can get quite persistant......
PERSISTANT as in ......knocking on door again...maybe ten minutes after being turned away the first time.
That is when the cops should be called.

Drunks are one thing.
Some of them are beyond the pale and can't do much more than panhandle.
But organized groups of people? And some of them persistant. Utilizing aggressive SALES TECHNIQUES?
Or...the person who might be able to pick up fifty or sixty bucks a day?
Beats the hell out of working for day labor or temp place or working for the minimum wage.
But I sure ain't giving THEM money.

Oh yeah....the people that buy the thin mints that sell for about 99 cents and then post themselves at supermarket exit claiming to be charity......
I got burned on one of those ...
gouged....
it was in front of post office.....
male and young girl ...selling mints....
I don't know what got into me but I thought I'd buy one. Knew it would be at inflated price. But not five bucks! I forked it over.
Just didn't want to get into any kind of arguement with the guy.
Not with kid there.
So i just paid the five bucks for the little box of crappy mints that I
could have gotten for 99cents if I walked across the parking lot.

I would recommend that you do some research online on social agencies that would be geared toward feeding and sheltering, as well as health care and job training in your municipality, and then make a list and print several copies to keep either in your car, your purse or your briefcase, and when you are approached by a panhandler simply get one copy and give it to him/her.

Don't give to them ; that should discourage them.

The next time you see the girls or the like, give them the employment office's number.
