I have a bad back and have been gaining weight the past 5 years. I can't do sit ups anymore. Running kills my back the next morning. Any suggestions?

know this sounds crazy, but try walking! start slow and work your way up either distance or time, your pick.If its too hot or cold outside try a treadmill. Be careful at what you eat, no fried foods, cut down on sugar and sodium, gradually not cold turkey, remember it took you 5 years to gain that weight so youre not going to lose it all in a week or two, good luck!

I have a bad lower back. So also have to be careful which exercises I do and how I do them.
Mostly I stick to walking and I did try Pilates but apparently I used the wrong videos b/c I got laid out for a week b/c of it.
Right now, I'm doing cardio with Leslie S (something or another). It's good but you have to be sure to only do as much as your back can take. I tried to do it all, after 3 days, bent over to pick up my 3 year old (shouldn't have done that anyway) and now I'm still recovering. Though, I think that the exercises are working b/c the recovery time is shorter.

Walking. It's awesome. Put some good tunes on your iPod, take along a friend, and check out all the great nature trails, parks, pretty neighborhoods, etc, etc.

Swimming is also a great exercize, but for me, you can't beat walking if you have some back or joint problems. A brisk walk for at least 30 minutes a day can get your heart-rate up, and you'll feel great.

Running is bad for the back. Try power walking - it's not as brutal

I think you should go for the exercise you like most and feel comfortable with the most.

Consider swimming or light dancing maybe?

Cycling. low impact but you need to go about 6 times further than if you were running (unless you have a big hill to ride up)
