Because the English can't accept anything good made by other countries and so change the names to make it seem 'theirs'. oh, and don't break my balls all you patriots, I'm English.

Within Ireland the manufacturers have copyright on the "Bulmers" brand but when they began marketing outside Ireland that brand was already in use by another company. So they renamed the cider "Magners" for the export market.
I believe Magner was the name of the farmer who owned the orchard before the C&C company bought it for cider production (something like that anyway).
I've no idea what the other (non-Irish) Bulmers company makes, a follow up question perhaps? :)

In Ireland theres always been a Bulmer's cider and theres also been an English Cider brewer called Bulmers also. When the Irish Bulmer's wanted to expand internationally they had to find a different brand name so decided on Magniers insteadfor all trade outside the Republic of Ireland.

Bulmers Original Irish Cider is a cider produced in Ireland. To prevent confusion with the English cider of the same name it is sold outside of the Republic of Ireland as Magners.

Message to the other answerers: Why Chicago get so many thumbs down, he WAS the user Donovan T. He was a great user, and message to the questioner: you might as well just leave him alone. He left because he didn't want to be part of this section anymore (no offense) and giving his account back would be useless, sure he'll have his account back but theres no chance that hes coming back anytime soon.

Is it?

News to me.

Always been Bulmers Strongbow and Woodpecker.

Must be a marketing ploy.

They are pretending that it is anew product, in order to compete with all the trendy new ciders on the market.
