It looks like your attempting to install windowws XP on a clean hard drive. not a problem.
all you do is in the bios make sure the hard drive is visible (the make and or model number of your drive is listed.
now providing your system allows booting from the CD/DVD you can install windows and during the install process the drive will be partioned and formated automaticaly.
if your sysem does not support cd/dvd booting then your going to need a floppy diskto beoot the system. use a windows 98 boot disk and boot in the system with it. you may need to select boot with networking (it's been awhile since i had to do this myself).
once your able to access the CD you can then just run the set up program from the XP cd.

if your attempting to format the systems one and only boot drive you have to do it the same way as above even if you have XP installed already as thesystem will not allow you to format the boot drive anyother way.

The install CD doesn't give you an option to format until it's well into the installation. Let everything "load" in the beginning and after it's done it will, after a choice or two, give you a screen that let's you choose where you want to install windows. At this point it will let you do a format. Just be patient after you boot up from the CD in the beginning. Good luck!

First of all create a bootable floppy disk. This can be done as follows:
-insert a floopy disk
-right click on a:
-select format
-select create MS-DOS startup disk
by this you will get a bootable disk.

Now with the floopy disk inside the floopy drive restart the computer. Then follow the process as mentioned below.
- now the system will start booting from the floopy disk
and this will take some time
- now come to the command promt (eg. c:\>)
- now go to that drive which u want to format and type format (drive name)
(eg. d:\>format d:). This example will format d:
- similarly u can format all drives of ur hard disk
- then after all formats install windows again

hehe well you have to boot from the windows xp cd-rom and then it will prompt you to format in ntsf format and then it will install windows xp. You could also use my computer right-click the drive to format if it isn't the master drive you boot onto and format that way.

yes, it is indeed tricky
the easiest way is to get another hard drive and boot of that and then format it as a aditional hard drive, but otherwise you will need dos boot disks and then you will need to use the "fdisk ( drive letter) " command and that should do it for you, good luck
