No. And as quick as the other answerers are to yell "WIND POWER! SOLAR POWER!", it's just not a viable option for most every-day suburbans.

So it's not really a matter of not hurting the environment at all, and more a matter of doing a little damage as possible.

Start off by changing your lightbulbs from regular bulbs to compact, low-energy flourescents ( http://www.greenshop.co.uk/acatalog/Bulbs-multipic-240d.jpg like the one on the right). They use about 20% of the energy of a regular incandescent bulb, and last anywhere from 10 to 20 times longer. They can be bought at any hardware store like Home Depot, and give off he same quality light as you'd get from an incandescent bulb.

Then go over to your thermostat. You can save energy (And oil, if you have oil heating) by programming your thermostat to drop down in temperature at night, when you don't really need your house heated as much as during your waking hours. And in the realm of cooling, consider individual fans where you often are rather than using air condtioners, which use much more energy than fans and often have dangerou coolant fluids in them which can poison ground water if leaked.

Be sure all your appliances are efficient, too. Look for the most water and energy efficient washers and driers, diswashers, stoves, refrigerators, etc. All appliances should have a sticker on them that gives you the EPA efficiency rating.

Also, while it's not directly related to electricity, be sure to recycle what you can. Check with your local recycling plant to see what materials they reccle (Metals, plastics, styrofoam, paper) and then take advantage of that! And if they don't accept a certain material, try to petition them to!

No, it is not possible to power an entire home with electricity without hurting the environment because even if you use solar panel's (which is least damaging to the environment) the initial making of the panel's will have caused damage to the environment.
