just because you have the ability to prescribe medicine doesn't mean you have too......check into being a psychologist if the medicine thing bothers you too much.

Would you bad if you were a medical doctor and prescribed medication for high blood pressure, cancer, diabetes? A Psychiatrist is a doctor ant specializes in the brain. The brain is an organ of the body that can get sick just like any other part of the body. Sometimes medication is not needed, just as in some other physical concerns. Sometimes it is needed. The trick is to figure out when it is need and when it is not. Why would you feel bad about prescribing a needed medication to someone? I don't think we should try to medicate people for every mental illness, but some people who are Chronically and Persistently mentally ill need their medication. I see people in this situation every day at work, and I see how their life is completely turned upside down if they don't get their medications. Good luck in your career goals :-)

What a stupid question. Of course it is moral. If you don't like prescribing medications, then don't. From what I understand, most psychiatrists only figure out what type of medicines you should be on and leave the prescribing up to your general medical doctor.

I think it's a very honorable job. Psychiatric people really need their meds to have a normal life. Without the psychiatrists, they couldn't. But if you really feel uncomfortable to prescribe meds, than you shouldn't go there, or you'll have a hard time loving your job for the next 30 years.

Psychiatry has a long history of persecuting and assaulting the very people it claims to "help".
From the barbarous restrains, electricshocks, Lobotomy, Isolation, insulin shock.
If you are an immoral person who takes pleasure at experimenting on helpless human beings, if you take pleasure at exerting power over people and destroying their brains, if you are sadistical and brutal and have utter contempt for human life then go right ahead and become a psychiatrist.
But if you value human dignity, freedom and respect then go to a real medical school and become a neurologist.

If you don't think pharmaceuticals are the way to go, you can get a PHD in Psychology. Being an MD requires the use of prescription drugs

Whether it is moral and whether it is the right thing to do are two different questions. Keeping people alive is the right thing to do.
