yes, botanically it is the product of a tree with a peel and a pulpy covering of a seed. However it is lacking some of the things we associate with fruit like sweetness from fructose and the ability to eat it from the tree. This fruit is bitter to the taste and has to be blanched in salt in order to become edible. I believe it took on this form in order to not be eaten by birds and to reproduce new trees near the parent tree.

i think so. i read once that if it has a seed and is covered by something fleshy, its a fruit. but the only true fruits considred are berries i forgot why.

good question!! i think its a vegetable, but did you know the black olives are the same as green? they just let the green ones stay on the plant longer?!?!!?crazy to me!!
