each individual 'decides' what they think is what, this is affected by our physiological make up, and social influences. Nature and nurture. but it's not a decision it just is and we don't really understand our drives and motivations, most don't even know what or why they are much less why they like somethings or others. Sorry to get all philosophical on ya.

To be honest, you know what you think is each of these categories. However, sad as it is, Hollywood truly decides what most decide is good looking, ugly, or plain Jane. They make the molds, and I mean molds, those women do NOT wake up looking like that. One out of 1000 maybe. They mold them, make them, snip them, paint them, and then lay them out for all to oogle them.
Same with Plain Jane's. They point them out in magazines, talk shows, and Entertainment News shows. Telling all the world, "This is ugly".
Too bad American's can't make the decision on their own and know that the old adage that "beauty is only skin deep" is true. Have you ever seen a beautiful women then she opened her mouth? How about one that isn't "beautiful" yet she gives to her community, others, and is truly a beautiful person?
Too bad most men lie on what is airbrushed in a magazine, or on a TV/Movie screen to decide for them.

Real beauty comes from within. What we see on the outside can be deceiving. Each of us has our own tastes so we each have our own opinion on what is good looking, ugly, or simply a plain jane.

A great study of beauty comes from entimology.
In the eyes of living creature beauty comes from Health, when both sides of the body are equal to each other, and the obvious visual ability to procreate.
