This kind of fear is a reverential fear that comes from a great love and respect for God. It's like the kind of reverential fear that a child has for a good father. The child doesn't want to offend or disappoint his father because he loves and respects his father too much.

God gives us life and we are nothing without Him. Plus, Jesus (God in the flesh) is the only one who can save us from Hell (eternal separation from God, loneliness, misery, and despair). Thus, it is very wise to have a fear of God and very foolish not to.

Fear of God actually means Respect for God, just as you should respect your parents and others. Respecting God and His word, the Bible, means you will read the Bible and learn much wisdom from it and search for more answers through spiritual leaders. The worst lack of wisdom is not knowing that the "fear of God" is "respect for God", your creator. He's the ultimate Abba, which means Father. By the way, the fear of Hell is truly wise, for Hell truly exists. Would you rather live for a wonderful God and reap all the benefits of it or would you rather not live for him and find out later that he really exists? What's the downside of that one---eternity in hell. Read the Bible and you will truly learn how to live a wonderful life filled with happiness. It's the best life source in the world. As for scientific revolutions, those have been going on for centuries and the fear, respect, and love for God has never changed that. Knowledge in all aspects of life is what we need, not ignorance.

That was a quote from the wisest man to ever live. Solomon tried everything under the sun. All was vanity and vexation of spirit.
To fear God is to keep His commandments. Wisdom has been taken out of our public schools and courthouses. A very foolish thing to do. We will suffer the consequenses for this as a nation.

Fear can be healthy - fear of doing harm, fear of being harmed - but when fear controls, it is unhealthy.

To accept a religion or way of living due to fear of a hell is not wisdom, it is simply being afraid and being controlled by fear.

Wisdom is knowledge, experience, and making use of both.

Fear of God is the end of wisdom. When you reach the point of fear, you never learn anything thereafter.

fear doesn't lead to wisdom, not believing in god lead to wisdom. If people always believe in God, then there will not be a scientific revolution.

simple, fear of G-d is not the same as fearing a person will hurt you with a big stick.

fear of G-d is best described as awe in the understanding of G-d's greatness and omnipotence. When one starts to study and understand that it brings to wisdom on the nature of G-d and how the Universe is run.

fear also express a state of humility and admitting that you may not be the wisest and that God may know something you do not.

The term fear in the bible really needs an update in it's time it was a term that was more about respect of those in higher positions not a concern over ones safety or well being.

What a concept. living in fear of your creator is not the beginning of wisdom. It is more like compliance through intimidation.
