I was atheistic for many years, so I find it hard to condemn anyone who agreed with me for so long. Adversity showed me a need that was covered by a comfortable life. It is said that adversity doesn't make the man, it reveals the man. Most atheists I talk to have not found the need for God (yet). Until they do, I can only be a friend. There is also a very large ambiguity in the word 'atheist'. The proper use of the word defines a person as opposed to Theocracies, such as the Vatican, the state of Israel, and many other church-states. Most of the people that call themselves atheists, are actually agnostic, and believe that God may very well exist, he just doesn't care.

I believe atheists are spending their life trying to ignore the obvious signs abounding everywhere-there is a God who is Lord of all and Creator of the universe. However, admitting that fact would cause them to feel compelled to change their lifestyle, something they do not want to do. Therefore, they remain willingly ignorant of the obvious.
Furthermore, the reason atheists are often more intellectual than others is because they are able to see the logical end of their thoughts. An undecuated man can say he believes in God but behave in a matter totally contrary to the Bible, God's Word. This man is no more saved than an atheist. An intellectual atheist sees the fallacy in this man's behavior-if there really is an eternal heaven and hell, all of our actions should be shaped by that fact. However, the atheist does not want to change his or her behavior, so they come up with a new way of thinking-there is no God. They deny the obvious, the truth that is painted everywhere in creation and in the hearts of all mankind-there is a God.

Atheists have varying reasons for believing as they do, or perhaps I should say varying reasons for disbelieving as they do. Most all of those reasons are perfectly understandable and reasonable. More often than not, I think that they have not found reasonable and satisfying answers to their questions. Instead, they are treated in an unbelievably rude and crass manner. Such treatment is indefensible in a professed Christian.

They should never be insulted, disrespected or patronized. They should be treated with love and courtesy which is due all humans and any questions they have should be answered respectfully. This is not my opinion. This is all drawn from the Bible - that book that teaches true Christianity.

No one should be saying they are sinners and going to hell. A Christian should know that they will be judged according to judgments they make. My opinion is that the Lord has not been shared with them per God's will. The atheist needs to be prayed for by Christians. I feel they are equal in the site of God. If someone dies as an atheist without confessing that Chirst Jesus is their savior, then they perish and go to hell. The confession is of the heart, not the mouth.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm more of a liberal Christian than a conservative one. These are the points that I argue with my church (Catholicism) about: homosexuality is just as natural and God-given as heterosexuality and should be treated as such, priests should be allowed to marry as *well* as be women too, and the Catholic church is not the one true way to Christ. In my humble opinion, *all* theists in the world, regardless of religion, understand and believe in the same God that I do -- just from a different perspective. It could be multiple gods/spirits (Hinduism) or a simple meditiative life that focuses inward (Buddhism) -- both have just as equal a chance as I do at making it to Heaven.

Now to atheists. My opinion is similar -- although Christianity in general condemns atheists to Hell, I cannot accept the idea that someone who didn't ever understand God on earth couldn't stand face to face with Him and have any other thought than to accept what he/she is faced with. I'm not here to preach that, though. I'm saying that again, I think atheists who lead their lives morally and have strong character deserve Heaven as much as any theist. One of my best friends is an atheist -- I would hate to think that just because she doesn't like the Catholic church or the concept of God that she would go to Hell without any further regard. I would hate to think that a God considered so loving would think like that.

i don't hate or dislike atheist, but truly the truth is most christians would not want you to go to hell, it's your choice though we would like that everyone go to heaven, do you know some people who claimed to be christians are sinners to, nobody sinless only christians ask for forgiveness and atheist don't because they never belived or belived and chose to not believe for a reason or another , it is our belief in christ that tries to to do diffferently but we are not to force the issue, again your choice heaven either? I think that atheist are in the dark and something has turned them from God I don't think you are bad people God loves the atheist just like he loves the christian. just cause you are a good person won't get you there either. Yes anybody can say you will go to hell, but that is right if you not believe , nothing to be creative about that is God's word, not our own. i think atheist don't want to hear about hell because they fear it. Oh also non-christians bash us everyday for our belief. do you feel something missing in your heart? do you feel a void in your life? You need Jesus he loves you ever so much

Depends on the athiest. Like Christians, some are better people than others.

I know a couple of people who claim to be athiest and they are, in some respects, better people (give more to charity, more kind to people, care more for others) than a couple of people I know to be Christian.

It isn't the faith of the person that makes one good or bad, it is what is in the heart of the individual.

I don't know if an athiest is going to hell or not, that isn't for me to decide - that is up to God and God alone. I would never say to anyone "you are going to hell".

Are they sinners? Yes, they are - but so is every Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddist and any other faithful person on the planet.

You are human and the Bible says we are to love one another. Oh, and the Bible says we All fall short of the Glory of God, which means we are all going to Hell if we don't accept Him into our hearts. God is so real if you give Him a chance. Without God, I have hope in nothing. My life would be so empty if I knew He didn't exist, but He does exist and He is so incredibly real! Imagine that someone will always love you no matter what you do.Look at the splendor of the earth! The Bible even says that we are uniquely made and it is so true. Last thing, the Bible tells us that even demons believe in God.

I’m not sure I’m Christian in the way you think... so maybe I shouldn't be answering your question... but anyway I like the question, so here's my answer:

For me an atheist is a person who had the chance of thinking about existence and religion;
Something that most believers never bothered or had the chance to do.

I emphasize the word “chance” for the following reasons:
Any smart creature, given the chance, or circumstances, or time to “think” about this subject, would most likely pass through this “atheist” status, or phase.
But most people are busy analyzing/doing other stuff;
Also religion is so famous about being complete in most societies, that even considering analyzing/criticizing it seems in vain.
So an atheist can be considered as a lucky person with some brains.

Which also gives credit to the following proposition: a “believer” can be a super smart and active society member, while an “atheist” can be as stupid as a rock, who only can repeat “God doesn’t exist” sentence...

By “Think” I mean, using the logical rules as wide and deep as possible regarding an issue, while being the least affected by pre-defined rules.

So an atheist can be as I said “a person who had the chance of thinking about existence and religion”, or also, just a follower, just following some fashion: “Atheists are COOL, so I am atheist”.

Of course I’m going to talk about the first group.

One main characteristic of being atheist, is considering that god doesn’t exist.
Doing this simply considers billions of people (believers) through time, as being totally wrong in their beliefs...
Considering this, besides its being arrogant, has a big chance of being inaccurate.

Could all those people through time be totally wrong? Could all those wise men, in the religion books, be hallucinating?
I think they must have had motives... let’s fetch the motives... the purposes... see if we agree with them;
The means (religion, god...) that are used, are they substitutable, maybe they need to be understood/addressed in different ways...
Are they real, are they symbols? ...

Questions that need considering... We can’t bypass all that and just be atheist.

So just being an atheist, for me, is being arrogant.
It’s being a person who reached a certain depth in thinking and didn’t continue...
Maybe for feeling strong, satisfied with the dose of rebellion he/she achieved... maybe for being incompetent with a weak mind for deeper thinking.

Atheism would better be only a “Phase” in a person’s life...

Is whirling an insult style of like twiddling with a boomerang? You wing it interior the air and it comes back. Then gets uninteresting after a on a similar time as considering the fact which you recognize this is in basic terms a sprint of wood that could desire to have been used to kill an worry-free Christian with?
