That would be a fully computerized sniper gun that could all by itself identify targets, zoom in, aim, engage, shoot and hit all without any human intervention.

Does such a weapon exist ?

The US Military is using a remotely operated turret on their Humvees in Iraq right now. It's called the CROWS and is currently in use!

As far as sniping is concerned I have not heard that it has that capability, but it wouldn't suprise me.

Many security companies such as the one that builds the Presidents's Limos have such options bulit into custom armored Humvee's and Chevy Suburbans for customers with such needs. It was featured on the History Channel some time ago. A remote gun can pop out the roof with a video sight and gyro stable controls.

It's not really an automated sniper, however, there is something which meets your description in wide use. It's a Navy weapons system for intercepting incoming missiles. Unlike a sniper it shoots an incredible wall of projectiles at incoming targets. It can identify, track, and destroy targets automatically.

It can detect hostile fire, collect photographic evidence and provide situational awareness to support ground forces.

None such exists. but if it did, it just may be quite a deterrent along the US/Mexican border!

i doubt it , how could it get in to position without being identified,thats the whole role of a sniper,one shot one kill.
