Nah..that's a human thing.
It would seem logical to me that everyone should go to church naked and without makeup or jewelry so they can worship God in the very skin he gave them, and so all worshippers can be reminded that they are all equal in hs eyes.
Of course that won't happen for two reasons:
1. Because Christians are way too uptight about sex and confuse the naked body God gave each of us with sex, and
2. Because they like to dress up and make other people feel inferior.

No, there is no need if you attend a church where people have similar tastes or standards. There are churches where people dress up as if they are in a fashion show or going to a formal occasion. Those who have a simple taste may feel uncomfortable in such a congregration. You can either follow the fashion or find a church where the emphasis is not on the external but on the heart. Or, you can remain and do what is best for you regarding dress.Paul the Apostle advises us to be adorned inwardly.

Depends on what you mean by dress up. I think you should look your best. If the best you have is a pair of jeans and a T shirt, then by all means wear it. We had to face this problem once in the Church my husband Pastors. The children did not like to wear shoes in the summer. We just told the Grandmother, "Bring them without shoes." That was 20 years ago, today one of the young men is a Preacher and two of the girls are missionaries. Its amazing what God will do if you just let Him work,.

Showing respect for God by trying to look your personal best when going to worship can be a good thing. On the other hand God see you at 5am on the toilet so it is not necessary. In fact I believe that there are time we need to go to God looking our worst so God can help us clean up.
The big problem is when you stop dressing for God and start dressing for the people at church seeking their approval. IF the church demands a certain attire the church is bordering on being a country club.

Well, do we feel that swimwear is appropriate for a wedding? Or do we feel that a tuxedo is appropriate for a card party? Do we show up at work in pajamas? Or do we wear a three piece suit to bed? In truth, we recognize that there is appropriate and inappropriate clothing. Church is a place where most people go to worship God. They tend to show respect to him at this place. Is it not reasonable to also show respect in the way they dress?

I feel you sister. We always had to dress up for church. I asked my Mom one time why that was, "wouldn't God be more concerned with what is in our hearts, rather than what is on our bodies?", I asked. Her awswer was that is was a form of respect, kind of like getting dressed up for a wedding, etc.
Personally, I think it had more to do with the old biddies that played fashion police and so that some people could show off their $$$$.

I think it depends on the congregation. It certainly doesn't help to not "fit in" in some congregations. However, some places are very "come as you are." If you are clean and not showing up in beach wear or something and you feel unwelcome then I would consider finding a new church home at some point.

You can't look slutty simply because that's bad manners. It's worse if you stay away because you don't have a nice dress, cute heels, and a silly little hat. If you want to wear those things that's fine, but you should wear what you have that is not offensive. How Christian are those people, you should find another church.

Tell them that God sees you 24 hours a day, knows what you have in your closet and how much you paid for it. There is no need to bring it to church and show it off there.
The concern of men to impress others is a wordly urge and impedes upon his ability to worship God fully. God could care less what you wear to church, because we ain't gonna be wearin nothin on the other side of those pearly gates.

i think your congregation's right.. we should dress up for church.... After all, we do dress up for any other event, don't we?
The church is the place that we meet God. We must be respect full...Just think it: You're standing in front of The One that made you and that chose you to be His son! can you come in your usual street clothes in front of the Greatest Power of the Universe? He's Greater than G. Bush in person.. wouldn't you pay any respect at all??
