If we didn't care, we wouldn't be feeding you, clothing you, handing out pension money, and seting up clinics across the country. Get your head out your azz.

If I read this correctly, your concern is why Americans don't care if for each American soldier that dies (in Iraq, I presume)10 civilians die.
It seems, from eveything that is reported, that almost all the civilian deaths are caused by Iraqis. As long as you have so-called religious thugs running around driving car bombs into crowded markets that is a strictly Iraqi problem. It is unfortunate, but it is Iraqi killing Iraqis, and as such the Iraqis cause their own problems with all this religious fanatic nonsense. Americans are not naturally too concerned because this is a case of Iraqis murdering Iraqis, just as Americans would not be too concerned if in China hundreds of Chinese are killed by Chinese. It's a local problem. At some point Iraqis have to stand up against these so-called religious frauds who are doing these killings and stop them. If they don't it is perceived as an accepted way of life in Iraq, lawless violence among Iraqis. If that's the way they want it to be then fine, carry on. If the Iraqis run around killing each other, then it must be what they want, so let them do it.

A majority of Americans do care when one U.S. soldier dies. And there are ten times more civilian deaths than there are of American deaths. But the fact of the matter is that when insurgents strike at one American, they hit 10 Iraqis too.
We do care. And the big problem for all of us is to stop the insurgent bombings and end this angry nonsense so that the U.S. troops can come home and you can live without insurgent bombings.

We live in a voyeuristic society, most but not all people love to see or hear about another persons misery. Heck, look at all the reality shows.
Common deaths aren't deemed newsworthy because, well, they're common.
Hearing about a good soldier blown to bits by an IED, according to the news, AND the people who watch it, that's great! I mean sheesh, look at all the great pics! (That last sentence was a cynical answer by the way.)

Many of the civilians that are killed are Friends of The Americans killed by the insurgency. They are men what want to be police, they are men and women that want to help rebuild their country as a free people. So the insurgency find them and kill the man and his wife as well as their kids. Yes we care that is way the US is keeping our young men and women over there to fight for the free people of Iraq.

Because the attitude in America is if it doesn't affect me directly I don't care about it. Being an American also gives you the right not to care about anyone else.

It mostly has to do with Americans caring more about what happens to their own rather then people from other countries. It's still a tragedy when anyone dies, but it depends on one's perspective on who gets more sympathy.

We care if civilians die. But let's face it, its the insurgents that are doing the killing so perhaps this question would be better directed to them.
