I take lots of pics...store them on computer...and view them on computer. Do some very basic editing. Email pics to friends. I use a Olympus 500 5mg. camera.

If you really never plan to print them (and the people you send them to never plan to print them), you can use the smallest mp that you can buy.

But consider that your plans might change in the years ahead, as some of these pics will become nostalgia favorites. At that point you might want to print some.

You never get a chance to add real pixels to an original. It might be better to take and store higher res photos, then cut them down now emailing. But save the better originals.

Just a thought (from an old guy who wishes he had better pics from years long past)...

Take them at the Highest Resolution the camera is capable of, then for e-mail / internet purposes I use an image editor such as "Picture Publisher" to chop them down to 373(wide) x 280(High) on Landscape photo's or 280(W) x 373(H) for Portrait shots...... and usually give them a quick swipe with the image sharpen filter.. and they turn out perfect for this use.

For the requirements you state above you'll be fine with a resolution of 72 ppi.

I use a 4 megapixel camera--because it's inexpensive, but the resolution is fantastic.
