A female stays in heat for about 21 days. I have had female dogs stay in heat only 16. It is a long nerve racking time unless you get her spayed. Not all vets will spay them when they are in heat, my vet will not because it is more risky than when they are out of heat. Do not put her to sleep because she is a cocker spaniel. I had one his name was freckles and he was the sweetest loving dog i could of ever had. You do have to keep their ears clean and dry as they are prone to ear infections.

Ignore what sonny said because there is bad dogs and good dogs. My neighbor had one and she was mean but never been socialized with others. Enjoy your cocker, they are good dogs.

Estrus (also known as season or heat) The female dogs cycle is divided into four periods: Proestrus-The female attracts the males, has a bloody vaginal discharge and her vulva is swollen. Proestrus last approximately nine dayts;the female, however, will not allow coitus at this time. Estrus-During this period, which also last approxmately nine days, the female will accept the male and is fertile. Ovulation usually occurs in the first 48 hours; however, this can vary greatly. Diestrus-Lasting 60-90 days, diestrus is the period when the reproductive tract is under the control of the hormone progesterone. This occurs whether or not the ***** becomes pregnant. False pregnancy (pseudocyesis),a condition in which the ***** shows symptoms of being pregnant although she has not conceived,is occasionally seen during diestrus. Anestrus-No sexual activity takes place. Anestrus last between three and four months. Hope this info helps you out.

Sexual neutral periods alternate with those where females are ready for coupling, and that are known as heat periods and estro. Female dogs don't have heat periods only in spring or autumn, as is usually said. Distinct to other animals (sheep, deer), seasons hardly influence them, so they follow their own rythm, that may be very different between breeds and concrete animals, but is almost constant in each being. The average interval between two heat periods goes from 6 to 7 months. According to a rule, bigger breeds have longer intervals than smaller ones. Two recognized exceptions are those of the dachshund, from 7 to 8 months,

and German shepherd from 4 to 5 months.

A dog's heat lasts 2-3 weeks.

You should consider getting her fixed that way she won't go into heat anymore? But that's not the answer you want I'm sure, so I think they are usually in heat for about a week. My neighbors had a husky that actually ended up getting pregnant even though she was in side a chain link fence (the mail poked her through the fence) so you need to be careful she gets no where near a male if you aren't planning on breeding her.

It can last a few weeks- my bulldog went into heat the very day she was to be spayed! Most vets won't spay a dog in heat, so I had to just get through it! Petco sells various products, like sanitary napkins and little "pants" to keep the pads in place. Keep her INSIDE- male dogs can smell a female in heat from far away! Keep her contained to an area that doesn't have carpeting too. Good luck!

usually when a dog goes into heat it can last anywhere between 4 days - 3 weeks.

I had a Westie and her first heat lasted about 10 days.

it happens every 6 months or so dep on the dog, some only have one once a year.

Usually 9 days. It would be best to have the dog put to sleep now. Most dog bites in the US are from Cockers. There are meaner than Pit Bulls, just not as strong or as smart. I promise you that if you own the dog for five years it waill have biten several people. I am not being mean, I am just stateing the truth about this breed.

anywhere from 7 to 14 days. If you don't want to breed her, wait til she has been out of heat at least 2 weeks and have her spayed. You have to wait til she has been out of heat for that long because she can bleed to death if you spay her too soon. If you get her spayed, she won't have anymore heat cycles and will be a much happier dog. You will be too, no mess, no strays hanging around, etc.

Approx. 21 days! She can get pregnant at any time, but she is mainly fertile between the 6th and 15th day.. PLEASE keep her on a leash, if you have a fenced yard, do not let her out alone, not even for a second! I am dead serious.. She is way to young to be having puppies!

You can also have her spayed while she is in heat, they will usually charge 10.00- 20.00 more though but it is money well spent. ALL vets will spay a female during her heat cycle..
