DO NOT under any circumstances open the registry.
Just because you had to ask means you have not had enough training.
Basically the registry is the location of all computer instructions. One simple missed period could destroy your computer to the point of loosing ALL DATA.
Please study and learn all you can before attempting to change anything in the registry. Unless you want to pay someone to repair it later after you have damaged the registry.
I have made my living repairing mistakes people have made to their computers by trying to fix their registries.

hey buddy first of all let me tell u that deleting anything from the registry or any small mistake at registry can cost u to reinstall all the stuff on ur comp that is the operating system, the installed softwares and the drivers,
also that registry holds all the vital information of the comp it is never advisable that u do that without prior knowledge of the software and the registry key values of the software whose registry u need to delete. one wrong step and u are most probabl;y risking the operation of ur computer.
even if then u are sure u wont be doing wrong and that u can handle the case then follow the steps to delete the registry entries.
START>> RUN>> regedit
there search for the registry entry and then delete. remember that there are many entries at many fields in the registry chart. so keep searching till the search result say no more entries are present.

1. Use add/remove programs to uninstall
a. start > control panel > add/remove
2. Delete any remaining program files (sometimes called orphan files) that might remain
a. start > search > all files and folders
b. Type in name of program
c. In drop down menu Look In: My Computer
d. Under advanced options make sure to check mark "Search Hidden Files and Folders", "Search Subfolders", and "Search System Folders"
e. Run the search and be patient. It might take a while.
f. If any files or folders are found, highlight them one at a time by clicking once, and then delete.
3. Normally, this is sufficient and you don't need to mess with the registry. But if you really want to clean the registry, I recommend you go to www.ccleaner.com and download their free utility. It works great to clean the hard drive as well as the registry. It let's you make a backup of the registry (I'd suggest burning it to CD.) I've used ccleaner for about a year and it's really easy and really good.
Hope this helps.

I use Ace Utilities. Uninstall the software using the control panel, and then run Ace Utilities and it will clean up the registry files that are no longer in use. Which is very OK.

Norton System works will clean out the registery of unneeded items safely.
Other than that, don't fool with it. (if you do, make a backup of the registery first)
