Who says people don't do the same? Jesus didn't do anything normal people can't also do. He died and his spirit went back to heaven. That's how it works. The Christians invented all sorts of things when they made him resurrect physically. Saint Paul was against such blasphemy but it made it into the NT anyway. Here's what Paul taught (and he knew)...
"it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body."
[1 Corinthians 15:44]
Any Christians see "flesh" or "bones" in that line? Didn't think so.
So, it's all spiritual and after death the mind returns to "heaven" and it can fly around and do whatever it wants, and even very strange things beyond the comprehension of the intellectual mammal called "man". And why not?

Christians will....
1 Thes 4:17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
Also... Christian's responding to this indicating he did not have a physical body at the time better check your bibles. Jesus rose in a physical body. It was a glorified body though. We don't know what that will be but the bible says exactly that, we don't know what it will be like but we will be like him. After Jesus rose, Thomas felt his wounds with his hand. Jesus ate fish.

Ascending is only an expression. This is a transition of the soul leaving the body and moving on to a new experience. We all can fly, regardless of our religeous beliefs of backgrounds. Believe in the soul, and you can soar the world. Just close your eyes, and believe. - Dangus Kincaid

He did die on the Cross for the entire world to save us from hell. He ascended to Heaven to prepare many mansions for us, and will return to get take us home. Never fear, he will be returning by descending through the clouds of Glory, and then we'll be flying to.

I do not believe Heaven is in the sky, so there is no need tp 'fly' to get there. I do believe that Heaven where the Almighty resides is the highest plane or dimention that cotains all perfection. So it seem logocal to me that to get to that highest plane one has to move 'up'.
I believe anywone who deligently follos God's dictates and who has found favor with God ca experience Heaven even on earth. I will describe such an individual as gone up to Heaven even though we can still see them on earth. Their lives will testify to their Heavenly status.

first thing were not the true son of god were his created children
Jesus is God and God is Jesus God is all power full so he can be anywhere and do anything,
second Jesus said in John of after i'm gone you will do greater acts than i have. meaning if you have faith in god you could lift a volvo over your head but only if it's Gods will we can't do anything without his say so.

Assuming that the story of the Ascension is true, I would have to say that the reason why we can't fly is because we aren't divine. According to most Christians, Jesus shared divinity with His father, and when you're divine, you can do anything!

He ascended on a cloud that God sent down to him. Also the people that go to heaven all ascend, we mere mortals cannot yet because we are alive.

First Jesus did`nt die, the pure in heart live forever .So you can do the same by purifying your heart. And the flying leave that to the birds.

The beliefs of Jesus were in his own heart, the people who attack individuality tresspassed in that very heart so they could promote their values in heart. Eventually Jesus died of the sins of death that he suffered from them promoting their values with his heart. Then, Jesus was ressurected from the death of the people and even what they thought was their own was taken from them. The power that you require is within.
