Remember that when God created this planet that He created Adam as a full grown man. The trees were full grown too. So if someone had gone back in time to day 7 of creation they would have thought that Adam and the trees and everything else had been here for a number of years when they were in reality less than a week old.
In the same way, God created the stars to be for signs and seasons here on earth. So don't let people tell you about what "science" says when it contradicts what the Bible says. Even though our human intellect tells us that if a star is millions of light years away, then it must be that the earth is at least a few million years old, that doesn't make it true.
The almighty Creator of this universe caused the light from the stars to already be reaching this planet on the fourth day of creation. Scientists weren't around then, and bless their souls, even though they do their best to share their knowledge with the rest of us, when they "X" God out of the equation and substitute their best guesses they aren't doing anyone a favor.

The original bible doesn't actually say how old the earth is.
Theologians calculated the age of the earth according to the lifespans of people mentioned in the bible.
In 1642, Dr. John Lightfoot wrote that man was created at 9:00 a.m., and in 1644, he wrote that the world was created on Sunday, September 12, 3928. BC
However in 1650, an Irish archbishop James Ussher, did the same calculation and his creation date was October 23, 4004 BC.
Once these dates were accepted as the truth most printed bibles had the dates inserted next to the relevant verses. I've seen a bible with 4000BC next to Genesis.
With the dispute over the age of the earth, the practice of printing Usher's dates for events, in bibles, has been quietly dropped. However the memory of the dated bibles still seems to reverberate through believers.
Creationism stuck to the Usher dates and the six days of creation. However it's, pseudo scientific successor, Intelligent Design has dropped the biblical dating method.
Science says the earth is about 4.5 billion years old. In my garden I can find stromatolite fossils (very early algae) from when this area was under a sea about 800 million Years Ago.

The earth is millions of years old, whatever the scientists say.
God created it. It did not just happen by accident, God created nature.
The earth was created then destroyed because of rebellion, then God re-created it again as documented in Genesis, one day = one thousand years on God's time = 11 Peter 3.
Christians sound foolish who do not think the earth is as old as the scientists say, those who say this are unlearned in the bible and scientific teachings which do not contradict the bible.
11 Peter 3 also documents the fact that their were/are/will be 3 world ages total.

First consider some scientific estimates or guesses. Not all scientists are going to agree. The Universe or heavens 20 billion years old. The Earth 4.6 billion years old. The Moon 200 to 300 million years younger than the Earth. Dinosaur extinction 65 million years ago. The Ice Age 2.5 million years ago. Oldest evidence of flesh man 7000 to 14000 years old.
There are 3 earth ages (II Pet.3:5-7), same earth but different ages. We are now in the 2nd earth age. Between Gen.1:1 and Gen.1:2 is a vast amount of time, if time existed. Between these 2 verses is Satan’s rebellion (Rev.12:3-4) and “his tail” drew 1/3 of God’s children. Between these 2 verses also belongs all fossils and remains, such as Dinosaurs.
In Gen.1:2 we have the of the end of the 1st earth age and the beginning of the 2nd. For clarity Gen.1:2 needs to be divided (see below).
(A) Gen.1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
(B) Gen.1:2 And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
In (A) Gen.1:2 the first occurrence of the word “was” has been corrupted and is “became”. It reads “And the earth became without form, and void”. The end of the 1st earth age.
In (B) Gen.1:2 we have the beginning of 2nd earth age, the one we live in now. Man did not exist in flesh till this earth age.
Between (A & B) Gen.1:2 is also a vast amount of time, if time existed. Between (A & B) Gen.1:2 is; a global flood (not Noah’s which was a local flood), the destruction of Atlantis, the breakup of Gondwana Land, and the Ice Age.
Time means nothing to our Father. He is very patient and loves His children. Instead of destroying Satan and 1/3 of His children, He destroyed that first earth age. Now in this 2nd earth age we all are born innocent in the flesh. Father came in the flesh Himself, Jesus Christ, and paid the price for all. Father defeated Satin, that is death, legally. So now His children have a decision, to choose life or to choose death. It’s your decision. Choose life!!

certainly, there are idiots in faith that make all and sundry else in faith look undesirable, and there are idiots in nonreligious ideals that make all and sundry else in nonreligious ideals look undesirable. the two a style of make up like 5% of each and every faction, yet they're the main interest craved and are extremely those that get most of the attention via fact so and alter into the place the stereotypes are derived from. heavily, as a non non secular guy or woman i'm respectful of human beings's ideals, and my non secular friends experience the precise comparable way. despite if a chum believed the earth is 6000 years previous he could in all threat no longer have faith it himself yet appreciate the reality that human beings do. The bible is way less something you worship and greater of a instruction manual, so why do human beings use it as an excuse to hate, or to hate on it via fact all and sundry is incorrectly employing it?

The Earth existed before the bible was compiled from fairy tales, about 1600 year ago. That's about the only factual thing the bible says.

Biblically, that is about right. But that is just as far as modern man is concerned with his ways of living. Actually God's creative days were in the thousands of years per day.
Man is just a recent arrival.
Isn't it fortunate we were not here when the dinasaurs were? We would have been wiped out with them.
