Well this is interesting. You are supposed to treat your body as the temple God designed it for. A residence for the Holy Spirit. Consequently, this covers anything that is detrimental to the body, takes away from the body, or disfuigures the body. Smoking, excessive drinking, eating, anything in excess that changes the normal appearance or operation of the body. In this light, it is no more a sin to tattoo, get drunk, get fat, strange things to your hair, piercings, take your body into dens of iniquity, areas of bad trade, and it goes on and on. Now once you have one, you have it, it doesnt peel off. I would not repsect any church that treated you different just because you have a tattoo. Providing you have changed your ways of thinking. However if you continue and keep getting more while attending church, then I would expect the minister to preach a little hell fire about it. But churches are not made for the God like, they are made for the sinners, and we are all sinners in the eyes of God.
The Biblical answers given here are pretty straight and correct, it is wordly and your body is a temple.

Just one simple question, is your friend God? If not then the answer is flawed. I know many Christians that are faithful and have tattoos.
I don't have any tattoos but that is a different story, however I am a man that has not had a hair cut in 3 years and don't plan on getting one anytime soon. Does that make me any less a believer? By no means. As Paul wrote, "If this is a point on contention, as for us and the Churches of God, we have no such practice."
So if the tattoo is respectful to the faith, go ahead.
Remember it is the relationship and the walk, that is the true measuring stick, not the restriction that others put on you.

The fact of the matter is, there is no rule and resitriction on tatooing per the Bible in the new coveneant. This is something that has to be sought out by an individual directly to God. Irregardless of "sects" of Christianity, only you can find the answer from God. The easiest way "out" is to not get tattoos.
Just ask Him.

It all depends. In the Old Testament their was a prohibition given to the Jews against tattooing because of the connection between it and pagan worship practices.
Nowadays, most Christians say that if the tattoo doesn't glorify God in some way then you shouldn't get one. But it's not considered a sin as far as I know.

Dr J say...yes it does! the bible only forbids pagan ritual tattoo, as to the second part of your question some christian sects in the past have tattoo cultures and devotional designs all their own as an outward show of faith and also as physical prayer..

The Bible is silent about tattooing.
Some people look to Leviticus 19:28, which doesn't speak about tattoos in the modern sense, but marking oneself in mourning for the dead, part of pagan religious rites.
However, there is the issue of modesty. For what purpose (and where) are you getting the tattoo? My wife has a tattoo, but most people would never know it.

not really, non denominational churches are pretty much OK with it, but about 90% of churches will frown on it, and treat you at least somewhat differently than the rest of the congregation.
people will argue that tattoooing yourself or getting a tattoo is like mutilating your body, and for that reason, according to the bible, its not allowed, but many people today think a tatto isn't really mutilating your body anymore. sure, your poking little holes in yourself and putting ink in all the holes, but your cat scratches you, and pokes you with her claws, isn't that even worse than a bunch of little holes? its your own opinion. you should be able to do whatever you want to yourself. if somebody has a problem with that, you need to find a church that will accept you for who you are, and not who you think you need to be.

People and different sects of Christinity may not allow it in the name of Christinity but there is nothing in the bible that indicates there is anything wrong with tatoos.

if you want a straight forward answer then no god said in leviticus
"do not tatoo nor peirce your body" your body is a temple of god and you should'nt cover it with things of the world. in romans paul tells us not to conform to the ways of the world but to the ways of god. this does'nt mean that if you have tatoos or body peircings that you can't be saved or go to heaven it's just when you get saved and become a christian god wants you to put the ways of the world behind you and follow him.
i hope this helps.
