18/3 = 6
dot was 12 her cousin was 6...
3 years later... dot = 15 cousin = 9
15+9 = 24

harmzeeco has the right idea, but 24-3 is 21, not 18.
so 3y=21, y=7
dot is 14, cousin is 7 @ 3yrs ago
dot is now 17, cousin is now 10
17+10=27, not 24
is my math off or is the question wrong?

X(dot) + Y(cousin) = 24

3 years ago dot was twice older than her cousin
that means that the addition will be:
X + Y = 18
but X=2Y ,,,,
means
3Y = 18
means Y=6 years old (her cousin's age 3 years ago)
*************************************************************
Y(cousin) is 9 years old now
x+y =24
x+9=24
X(dot)=15 years old
anything can be solved in mathmatics
