To ask such a question I think you are not a resident of USA or if you are you must be very young indeed. Had you lived in the30s there you would have seen for yourself the devastation caused by gusts of wind across the ocean to the continent. In their haste for civilising the continent the people had cut down the forests lining the West Coast. Till the tall trees were standing they were a bulwork against these tempests. With them gone the winds not only blew unchecked and unhindered across the continent they also carried the earth on the west coast with them scattering it all over and depositing it on the east coast. The accmmulation posed quite a problem and the only solution for that was to reerect the forest. Once USA realised its folly of overenthusiam they redirected it towards planting of forest. However, they had to be patient till the trees stood tall to rid themselvles of the scourge. It had been the talk of the continent at the time.
A more or less similar development is taking place in India but in a slightly different context. Wtth the decimation of foreests the denizens of the forests are seekng shelter in human habitations. Bombay where the last chhtah (leaving circus) had been seen towards the end of the 19th century have not frequent visits to the neihbourhood. The elephents in the South Indian forests literally hordes of them are running amuck across villages in search of shelter.
Even if we ignore the fact that forests provide much needed odygen to us the above are the immediate reasons indicating the need for their conservation.

We should conserve forests for several reasons. One reason, trees are a natural air filter. More reasons include forests are the habits of many different forms of wildlife, including plants, if we did not conserve our forests they are at risk of losing their home and possibly becoming extinct. Another reason, it's nature, we still should have a few places around that is just nature and not polluted by cars and busy streets and everything else that goes into a city!

We conserve forests because Trees take a long time to grow back. Plus there are many animals that live in the forests that will die (or inconveniently move into the cities) if their homes are suddenly destroyed.

RAIN, Habitat, because I love trees, Shade-because I have 2 huge Maple trees, a Red bud tree, a Holly tree and so on with numerous trees including Pine in my backyard now that its so hot I have shade and its so much cooler than my sister's yards who has few trees-all the birds and small animals find refuge from the hot sun, Windbreak, Water break-why Baton Rouge suffered its recent fate-the trees etc also were not there to hold water and wind at bay(not only but was one of the reasons)Balance the earth-but mostly because they are necessary to give us rain-the giver of life-look what happens when forests are destroyed-the natural order is upset and the weather plays havoc for no protection. If Forests weren't vital God wouldn't have made them.

Personally I like the breathing aspect of living. But that's just me. And the creatures they protect? Theyre cool too. And the way that they pertain to our whole ecosystem works out very well. How some people say "well the earth has been what the earth has been for (insert number herexxxx xxxx years) It won't matter if cut all these trees down" I would be exuding kidness just to say that those people are ignorant. They are not ignorant, they are f***ing stupid. Ignorance is bliss stupidity is knowing the right answer and choosing a different path

We should conserve the forest so we don't endanger any of the animals that live there, and so our planet will still provide for the needs of animals and people for years to come.

Because our lives depend on them.
They are the lungs of the Planet.
Forests absorbe carbon dioxide and provide and give us other environmental services such as regulating water supplies and stemming soil erosion. These services have an enormous impact on worldwide agricultural productivity and human health. Forests play a crucial role as major stores of greenhouse gases. This important function contributes to reducing global warming.

just one of the negative impacts of letting our forests be destroyed
Logging can impact the environment both by cutting down trees and by the disturbance caused by moving it to the landing. Removal of trees alters species composition and the structure of forest and can cause nutrient depletion. Harvesting in high value ecologically sensitive lands can lead to habitat loss. Machines used in logging often disturbs the soil. The use of heavy machinery in the forest can cause soil compaction. Harvesting on steep slopes can lead to erosion and mudslides. Logging on saturated soils can cause ruts, and change drainage patterns. Harvest activity near wetlands or vernal pools can degarde habitat. Loss of trees adjacent to streams can increase water temperatures. Harvesting adjacent to streams can increase sedimentation in streams lowering water quality.
