I am going to go with 600 dollars for the simple fact that if she invested 1200 in to two small buisness the profit or the loss of either does not change how much she invested into them

There is enough here to work this problem it just also requires some estimation. Take a guess and plug a number in for x. You know it has to be more than half of the total. Then work the problem. total - x = y, then x * .14 munus y * .06, then look at this answer if it's too high adjust x down some, if it's too low adjust x up some. There may be more of a formula for this but I just don't remember back that far in my school history. But this works.

(14% * x) - (6% * y) = 102
x + y = 1200

x = 870

If working with 2300

x + y = 2300

x = 1200

Her investment in the greeting card business was $1200.00!

And yes there is plenty of information to answer this question so the above people are incorrect!

$1200.00 X 14% = $168.00

$1100.00 X - 6% = -$66.00

$168.00 - $66.00 = $102.00
