Gold is a mineral. So, gold is universal and there should be no differences between those you find in China or any place else (of course, assuming that they are both real). Yes, 24k gold is the purest you can find. And yes, it is really soft and easy to bend. But at the same time, by soft, it is not soft like tofu. My mother gave my wife some heirlooms and couple of those were 24k gold jeweleries. So, yes, you can bend it but you do need some force in order to bend it. And yes, it is bended easily but not that easy.

Because of the softness and also the culture of the people, 24k gold is not easily found in any jewelry stores in the states. You may be able to find some in Chinatown but they are expensive.

I would be sceptical of anything Chinese. Karat is a measure of purity, and 24kt gold is supposed to be 100% pure, and is never found in jewelry because it is just too soft and will scratch and bend easily. Another metal, such as silver, is added in varying amounts to increase the hardness. Silver added to gold gives what is known as white gold, but you can also add metals such as copper. Usually the highest purity you'd want to go in jewelry is 22 kt.

With the Chinese all bets are off. Who knows what impurities they sneak in to dilute the gold content. Most Chinese (aka Wal-Mart) products are crap anyway so why should Chinese gold be any different? I'd stay away from it. If it is selling for a lot less than gold from other sources you can bet they have done something to it.

I think that there is only one standard. Pure gold, which 24k is,is as pure as you can refine it.

If you buy a piece of Chinese gold jewelry, two hours later you want to buy another piece.
