Yes, protein levels are too high for a dog or pup. Can damage kidneys if fed long-term.

Please feed your pup a good puppy food. At six weeks, I feed canned puppy food and have dry puppy food always available. Truly, six weeks is a bit too young to be removed from the mother. In many states it is illegal to sell a puppy before 8 weeks.

Please take your puppy to the vet for a "well puppy" visit. Get your pup properly vaccinated & wormed. Ask about heartworm prevention & flea control. Make a list of all your questions before you go & ask while you are there.

Go to the library and check out the dog care books. There are lots of good books available. And please, train your dog.

Your dog can be your best friend, make sure you are your dog's best friend.

YES it definately can. Cat food has too high a protien content in it and the wrong nutrients. Give your puppy PUPPY food.
Good makes are Royal Canine, Beta Puppy, James Wellbeloved or Burns.

Also have a read of The Perfect Puppy by Gwen Bailey. You will find it helpful.

for a short time, it won't hurt your puppy.

the problem is that cats are pure carnivores - they have to and only eat meat/protein. their body chemistries can make the other nutrients they need.

But dogs are omnivores - they eat meat, plants ( vegetables), nuts, etc. Their bodies' biochemistry is such that they NEED to get the nutrients from food; they can't make those non-meat based nutrients themselves.

If you are going to be feeding the puppy cat food, give him/her some cooked and raw veggies ( they like carrots) and cooked rice, or even barley or oatmeal - no sugar.

But it would be easier and faster for you to feed him/her food made for puppies. like Puppy chow, or other puppy food.

Having said all that, there are places on the web that will tell you what foods you can fix at home for your puppy, made from food that humans eat.

A bit of cat food is OK for dogs, but you really should feed him the right food. Never give your puppy human milk either as they are lactose intolerant..You can buy special dog milk from stores.

You are PURRRFECTLY SAFE giving rover kitty chow--in a pinch dogs can eat an amazing array of foods and be fine--they have hardy digestive systems and are alot like the Borg they can assimilate damn near anything------but the lady upstairs was right when she was saying that you should get rover back on puppy chow as soon as you can because it is balanced for puppies and the very best for them

I would suggest soaking Puppy Chow in water until it's waterlogged and slightly warm it at each feeding . We did this with our Pug and it worked great. We also gave him an opportunity to eat every four hours since a lot of his water intake was through his feedings.
