People are hypnotized on a daily basis. Hypnosis is simply a state of relaxation where the conscious mind is suppressed and the subconscious mind becomes more active to 'take up the slack'.

When a person is lying on the couch, watching TV; or driving down the highway; and suddenly realizes that they were 'spaced out' for a few moments, that is a hypnotic state.

People can be hypnotized by others by actively following verbal commands that guide their states of mind to the proper levels.

You can also be taught to hypnotize yourself. I learned a technique for hypnotic anesthesia that is so powerful, I can stick a five inch sewing needle through my hand and not feel a thing. The technique that I learned is so powerful, that just discussing it makes my hand begin to go numb.

Ask the subject to fix his gaze on some brilliant object. Speak to him in a flat, low tone and suggest that he is getting more and more sleepy. Then suggest that his eyedlids are getting heavier and heavier and that his eyes are falling shut. As soon as that happens tell him that he is in a deep sleep and that he will be able to hear only your voice. During the hypnosis repeat the deep sleep suggestion from time to time. To wake him up tell him that he will wake up in a happy tranquil mood at the count of 10. Count to ten and he will open his eyes and will remember nothing of the hypnosis.
