You have to be more specific.

You can't copy a dvd to a cd. A dvd stores 4400+ MB of data on it and a normal cd only takes 703 MB's. If it's just normal data on the dvd then you can copy the data to 6 or 7 different folders of 700Mb each and then burn each folder separtyl.

If you are trying to get a DVD-Video on to a single cd you can go with two options.

1. Make the Dvd-Video into and AVI, should take between 2 to 5 hours, and you will need a lot of software. This is not practicle Since the AVI will only play on PC. however if that's what you want the quality will be acceptable if ou are using Xvid or Divx Codec. this technique is known as DVD Ripping (not the one below)

2. You can use software like DVD-Shrink to shrink the movie down to 700MB. It is also not practicle. If you reauther the disk and it has a Dolby AC3 5.1 Stream (or DTS) your video is going to undergo a sh*tload of compression and it will look like sh*t too.
